Speaker cone setting fire

Post by silentk » Sun Feb 08, 2009 6:51 pm

I wasn't aware this actually happend, but i was at a house party on saturday, the girl was playing a load of shitty dance, sounded like she just stuck a hed candi mix on. when one of the speakers (some big waist high hi-fi) set fire, the whole cone just set fire and burned out!

i swiftly stuck my ipod in a dock on top of a cupboard and broke out the dubstep

I once had an alesis 520 monitor spontaneously combust while I was on a night out- it wasnt even switched on, housemate was luckily on his way downstairs and spotted it before it took the rest of my room with it. Never seen a cone just set on fire though, electrical fault I guess.

lol, never set a cone on fire but heard a hell of a lot of stories about it, managed to blow the cone across a room before though aha

I'm sure everyone's heard the story about the scientist who apparently hemorrhaged experimenting with bass frequencies?

he built a speaker cone that was around 10ft, and had it playing, i think 32hz at a ridiculous SPL, and couldn't walk into the room to switch the speaker off because it would rupture your insides. My lecturer told me that!
