Where did you get your sample collection from.
Hello,
here's an interesting question regarding your sample collections.
Where did you get your collection from.
For example, I have spent the last 14 years buying sample cd's, virtual instruments, multi tracks, and creating my own samples through recordings.
It's taken me years to create such a library, especially as many of the sample CD's were originally in audio format so had to be ripped to HD, and painstakingly cut up into individual samples, organized into categories per sample cd and then made into programs for use in the sampler.
It has also cost me a fortune, as I have brought original software / sample cd's instead of copying someone else's collection that they ripped off them selves, and I haven't ripped off any from p2p apps either.
Personally, I am not with the "all property is theft crew", as all the property that I own has cost me dearly, and also, cost a fortune to develop.
Funny how the "all property is theft crew" don't like it if you suggest taking something of theirs such as the belongings of their house, their clothes, or the substances that they abuse (that pints not yours, all property is theft, oh, thanks for the coat by the way, next week i will come back for your shoes, and maybe you can turn up tomorrow and work for me for free and go back to your job the next day, as long as you give me the money you get paid on pay day, as all property is theft after all ass holes!"
Don't get me wrong, I am not judging or pointing the finger here,
I am simply telling you where my kit has come from.
(also, please note, that I have worked for everything I have, and not been given a penny to buy kit from any one).
Anyway, just out of interest.

My main sources of samples:
1> Computer Music covermount DVDs (mostly drum samples)
2> Reason 3 Factory Sound Bank (sex on a stick lol)
3> Free Refills
4> Home made / home synthesised
5> Films
6> Freesound Project
If I can, I'll make a sample from scratch. Drums I usually layer from the Computer Music DVDs & Reason drumkits.

i only have two lots of samples:
drum samples which i torrented
unfortunately i have just noticed they were pirated samples
in my naievity i thought that they were somebodies hardwork that they had decided to be nice and share... but no, they were ripped from sample cds and pirated, i felt bad about this so have started to construct my own drum library which will replace the pirated stuff
and
loops that i take from pop songs
these are most definately pirated, and i dont give a shit
if i want to steal a loop from a britney spears track and drop it in an 'ironic' way, im not going to pay for the privilage! (though i dont use them in my own tracks, just dropping them live)

here too. The only sample packs I've ever grabbed online have been breaks packs. And that's been at least a few years ago. Although I did grab that street fighter pack. I've wanted to sample that game forever, so that was a good find.Capital North wrote:Video games

My music library
However, sampling your own shit is really the only way to go. I've cut all my samples from day one. You could give 50 different people the same tune to sample and they all would grab different parts and use it differently. If your samples are already cut and placed in a pack, it's limiting you to to what the person who sampled it in the first place liked. Plus, sampling is fun and just a great part of producing. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to cut their own samples
I listen to classic rock all day. Everytime I hear a good drum break or sample I write it down or send myself an email with the tune title and what I liked. I've found so many gems that way. Been buying a lot of bargin bin dvd's lately to sample too.

cd's, records, the interenet, Dvd's. Collected over the last 10 years or so.
Some of the best samples come from scratch/battle vinyl.
