virusss help

Post by casual-p » Wed Feb 18, 2009 11:37 pm

Hi. out to anyone with some computer knowledge. been having problems with a trojan programme called "xppolicepro" or something like that. the download forced itself when i was tryign to stream an episode of shameless :( i have a legal up to date registered copy of mcaffee antivirus and firewall which says it has quarantined the trojan but it is still affecting my machine. i.e. all the trojan programme files are still there, it doesnt appear on add/remove programmes and task manager is blocked so i cant force the programme shut. has anyone got any ideas on how to remove this without downloading free antispyware programmes? i have removed some of the corrupt items from my registry but it hasnt seemed to have done anytihng. any help would be appreciated. thanks
p

try removing the software from your computer. then, install AVG 08.

Do a search by date and remove anything installed in the past two days or whatever and then run the virus scan again.

I had a similar trojan not too long ago, and got the same shit from McAffee.

the free/trail version Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware sorted it out in one try.

Came here to post this. If AVG couldn't find it give Malwarebytes a shot. If you were to do a system restore you shouldn't lose any tracks you made, but that being said you should always back your shit up first. :D

lol obviously yeh i would back shit up if i had anything worth backing up :( tried that malware thing, seems to have done the trick but some of the damage is still there - still cant access my task manager which is pissing me right of. says "administrator has blocked access to task manager" or some shit. people who write viruses should get aids. thats a nasty virus too apparently

Start>accessories>system tools>system restore.

Impossible to lose any documents you have saved on your computer doing a system restore...

It shouldn't. System Restore really just resets system files and settings back to the point they at when the snapshot was taken.
