but seriously, glitch hop is just another silly name for electronica hip hop, be it wonky, aquacrunk, laser bass, robo hyphy or what have you. there are "wonky" mixes on glitch hop forum as well as "skweee" mixes and "midtempo" mixes.. who gives a concern about what name is used? its all hip hop. my 2 cents.

This is a serious question.

No, I got no beef with you mang... you know we good. ;)

I would still like an explanation as to why it has to be like that though.

Arent we all lovers of the same sound? Why do you have to make that kind of distinction? You know Canadians and some Europeans call it that too, right? Why Americans only?

I'm not aware of the US/UK thing - most people HATE the term Wonky hence my post. I've heard it called Wonky Hip-Hop and Glitch-Hop since I started listening to Madlib and Dabrye all those years ago.

I agree on the Wonky thing... dont think its the right one either. Glitch Hop doesnt exactly fit anymore either, but in the same way dubstep doesnt really fit the music as a whole anymore.

The UK/US thing has been a pet peeve of mine for a few years now, begining with dnb, then dubstep, and now this. Its just a distinction that doesnt need to be made IMO. Its all just music, regardless of where its from.

Again... I have absolutely no issue with EFA. We cool, iHomies, station mates on www.dubstep.fm, etc...

This is what I was refering too.

Its all the same music, and there should be no distinction based on locale. That was my point and my issue with the comment made.

Maybe I overreacted, but everytime I read something like that on this and other boards it reeks of arrogance (which may not have been inteneded in this instance but I automatically assume it because its been the usual tone of comments such as this one - thats my bad to make assumptions).

Isit all the same music? I signed up to that forum and from what I could tell it was all glitch hop/lazerbass stuff whatever you wanna call it. All I know is Im not too interested in that stuff and I was hoping for more Brainfeeder, Onehanded and luckyme music a gwarn. Which leads me to believe its not the same music. Or am I missing something?

Should all dubstep really be classified as the same music? Or all DnB? All house? No. But it is. Thats not really my point though.

My point is that there are American artists making stuff that would fall into the distinction that you made (LuckyMe, Aquacrunk, Wonky, etc), and there are UK / European / Asian artists who fall into the more Glitch Hop type distinction. Its not an Americans v the World situation.

If people werent so hung up on the name of it, there would probably be more wonky/aquacrunk/whatever stuff on there. Glitch Hop might not be the best catchall name for it, but you cant start HipHopForum.com and expect it to stay wonky/glitchhop/aquacrunk/lazerbass and not turn into a bunch of hip hoppers talking about the new TI ft T Pain single .

Honestly, I hate all these genre name games, but it cant simply just be refered to as Hip Hop, as much as we all want to. This new style is too far removed from what is considered hip hop by the masses for it to not just get more confusing. Glitch Hop happened to be the one picked by the people who started the forum. It has moved away from glitch being the defining element, much the way that dubstep has from both the dub and the step of some of the music that it was born from, but we still call it that. Really, dubstep is just hip hop as well if youre gonna say all the above mentioned music is too.
