Reason Automation problems!
Hey, recently ive been using the lfo allot in the subtractor in reason 3, spending time on automating the rate in one or two bars of a bassline, only for me to copy and paste the bassline once im happy with it, and the automation falls out of sync, ive noticed that the automation falls out of sync after ive pasted it once, the pasted bars are a different color to the original one. ive tried allot of things, fiddeling with the automation, deleting any automation that may have been on the grid before i pasted the bar, ive even tried opening the project in reason 4 to discover it does the same thing.
The 4th bar i paste the automation is normally back in sync, and if i leave a space of a quater of a bar inbetween blocks the automation it correct.
Any help would be much apreciated.
Sorry for the epic post but this is really pissing me off.
Thanks!

Welcome to DSF!
Have you got the 'snap' setting on? (It helps to keep things tight.)
Also, make sure your snapping grid is set to something like 1/4 or 1/2, that way, you can't accidently offset the automation by 1/64th of a bar.....
Another way off doing this is to select the area you want to copy, group it by pressing Ctr/Apple-G, then copy & pasting it with Ctr-C/Ctr-V...

The snap is on and i tried the things you suggested and its still doing the same, the automation falls out and the pasted bars are a different colour, i think its something to do with the grid though, how if i leave a space of a 1/4 of a bar inbetween blocks they dont change, and how the 4th pasted block is normally the same to the original.
Thanks again!

Quantise the first & last note in the group/block. Make sure that the two midi notes don't exceed the length of the bar as this will cause the block colours to change when you copy & paste them.danbanana wrote:yep time signatures 4/4.bEErz wrote:is the time sig in 4/4??
also its not only whilst copy and pasting, if i drag the block out from it original position the same thing happens.
Im not adding the notes in real time, but to the grid with the snap on, so placement or quantization shouldnt be an issue, but i quantized the notes anyway and it was still the same. And the notes dont exceed the legnth of the blocks.futures_untold wrote:Quantise the first & last note in the group/block. Which version are you using?
In v3 and below, you can use the selection tool directly on the automation data to select the area you want to copy. I know with the snap on it is possible to get precise cuts/copies of the automation you wish to copy. I zoom right in so I can see there is no overlap of the beginning of my selection, both when I initially select the area and when I paste it again....
In R4, this really shouldn't be a problem as it has vector automation data ffs!
I'm running out of ideas tbh. I have found in the past that the first block is sometimes a different colour to the rest of the blocks on a track, even when the contain exactly the same colour. The way you'd know if this was the case is if every consecutive block you pasted was the same colour from the second block onwards......

Its reason 3, but i did try loading the same project file in reason 4 to find out it did the same thing. Ive tried trying to find automation data that exceeds the legnth of the block and failed. Ive set the automation to the same rate at the end of the first block to what it is on the beginning of the 2nd so it has time to catch up and its still doing the same thing. I know man everyone ive asked seems to be stumped. I thought maybe it was an error in the copy i have, but ive opend project files on someone elses copy of reason 3 and reason 4. I really apreciate your input though:)futures_untold wrote:Which version are you using?

Cheers man, ill give that a listen. Yeah its really restricting me. I thought about changing programs, but im where i want to be with reason atm and if i could get this sorted it would be fine.baz1manor wrote:ez man, im a long reason user and i have just come across the same exact problem, i have a section of a bass that i "wobbled" using malstrom, i automated about 32 bars of the rate knob, the clip wasnt fully quantized but the vectors fell where i need them too. the problem came like you said when i copied this automation clip to another part of the tune with snap on "bar" and it was all out of sync - check it out here -

the 1st part comes in at 1:50 and the second part at 3:40.
id love to help you out man, if i find a solution i will come bk for sure. never had this prob with reason before.
Cheers!

Not that tedious really tho. You can copy all instruments and all automation etc to a new project.futures_untold wrote:Have you restarted the project, copying each part one by one? That is possibly one way of locating the offending problem. (If a little tedious haha)
Does the problem happen in every project or just one?
(tip you can hold down I think ctrl and click on each instrument in Reason to copy the lot)
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Although normally I'd agree, copying and pasting everything may potentially miss getting to the root of the problem...Serox wrote:Not that tedious really tho. Well I don't know if everything is out of sync or just one unit. Play with the unit that's broke of course:pfutures_untold wrote:
