this might help
Take a sawtooth, or even better: a lot of them. (So that means a supersaw on a track of the MnM.)
On a second track, put a pulsewave. Since we need pwm, I suggest you take the superwave pulse machine.
Now, put an exponential lfo on the pitch of both waves. The pitch of the waveforms has to start high and fall back to a steady value so put trig of the lfo on one and tweak depth, speed, etc. according to your needs. See to it that the settings are the same for both the saw and the pulse.
Now head for the sawtooth: use a lot of detuning here. unil to max, uniw to 105 and unix to 100. Dial in two subs as well: subx around 70, sub 1 around 95, sub 2 around 85. Also, transpose the pitch up to a full octave (+12) and ,very important, the eq settings: eqf around 70, eqg around 5
Then, the pulsewave: unil: max, sub 1: 120, sub 2: max. Now, tweak the pulsewidth...pw: -45...experiment with this setting, I haven't found the ideal setting yet. Eq: eqf: 90, eqg: 12
Add some subtle distortion to both waves, perhaps some mild filtering and crunch both waves through a chorus machine on track 3 to add more dirt and fatten things up.
Perhaps some extra filth can be added by subtly modulating pitch and pw.

But we wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for Kevin "Maurice" (~> Reese) Saunderson's Just Want Another Chance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ-uXuyKMLY
And even Cybersonik (aka Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEW0gdw7UxU

Agreed - the actual song Mentasm was by Second Phase (which J. Beltram produced, that youtube clip was just tributed to Beltram).Caeraphym wrote:An alias of Joey Beltramcontakt321 wrote:The original (mislabeled - the artist is Second Phase)![]()

Managed to catch a copy on Discogs last year.
i would have thought mundo muzique deffo got the props with beltramEops wrote:Trainspotters corner -
The Mentasm sound actually first heard on the Mundo Musiq EP on R&S records on a track called 'Acid Pandemonium' a month or so later Mentasm dropped. Although technically Mentasm was released first and got all the props. Poor Mondo never gets the props
it was beltram and mundo that made mentasm together as second phase
