HAPPY dubstep... Where is it?

Post by stevetwors » Fri Mar 27, 2009 5:25 pm

im new to dubstep but already am rockin it. i thought being new to the genre it would take me a few times to get it right but i rocked it at a small local gig last week. excerpt from my show is below:

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=b5c1 ... f6e8ebb871

my problem is that i can only rock it for a short time and then people get burnt out on the hard edge tough macho vibe. i have enough of the hard stuff, like in the sample i provided (that was towards the end of the night) but there is a BIG GAPING HOLE in the spectrum of sound in my dubstep sets. i have too much chainsaw wobble stuff, and not enough friendly or happy dubstep.

the problem is, people will recommend dreamy, dub techno ish stuff which while sounds nice and relaxing, is not good dancefloor material.

basically what im looking more for is in the video below. if people could just tell me tunes that sound just like and carry on from the video below that would be great:

Sounds like you need some Anti-Social vibez in your life bro. Look for artists like Heny G (when his releases are out!) & Silkie. Also L-Wiz, H*O*D & DJG on a deeper uplifting tip.

Check out the Phaeleh stuff and the XI stuff on there... we've also got some treats in store... and you may enjoy the other stuff as well, but those are more what you were asking for tbh.

Enjoy!

Have a search for the artist names on online record/download shops. Also check out some sets in the mixes section on here - Heny has just upped a new studio mix and myself and Uncle Dirty always play a lot of tunes by the artists mentioned on our Sub FM show (check my sig for latest show download an ting.)

Interviews and tunes by Silkie, Heny G, H*O*D and L-Wiz at www.sonicboomuk.com as well you know - might be worth a butchers.

If you can get your hands on any of the WAR releases, they're good party tunes:

This may seem like shameless self promotion, but I've always avoided all that sludgy chainsaw stuff. My stuff is very melodic and quite upbeat. Chop Happy in particular which is being released on Monday.
Check out the Myspace:

If there's anything else on the player you like, I'd be happy to send them on.

check out this thread for more relaxed dubstep and this mix i made.

more melodic/'happy' dubstep artists are;
tes la rok, ikonika, joker, darkstar, wedge, rsd, zomby

also, from listening to your mix you really need to work on your beatmatching.

Dont know what the tune was in the Youtube clip, but sounded heavy! On a slightly different tip,but still "happy" check Joker - Digidesign :Maybe tunes like S.Y.N.K.R.O - Dont Know or 16 Bit - Twice, Quarta 3030 - Sunset Dub, DZ & Bowzer - Another Day. Not Dubstep in its purest state maybe some of them anyway, but hey
