Stupid things u do while producing

Post by r » Sat Mar 28, 2009 8:23 pm

Everybody does stupid things. It could be not saving projects or really weird habits......maybe even superstition.

I chew a lot.... just on my teeth. i know maybe chewing gum would be a good one but somehow im not that kinda person. After trippin a couple of hours behind my computer and waking up again, my teeth and jaw feels REALLY BAD

so whats ur problem ?

I wouldnt say its a stupid thing i do but a lot of the time i just make music that i enjoy and thats it. If i get to the point where i dont like i just open a new project.

Oh and im easily distracted so have to go to extremes to make myself concentrate like getting up and messing up my internet connection just so i dont get tempted.

Don't smoke at the computer man, go to the window or outside or other designated place. That way not only you wont smell like a firefighter, you also will get a lot of inspiration and ideas by standing up, moving and smoking.

Not only that but your monitor will turn yellow and the fans in your comp will be caked with dust. I ruined a few comps that way  I have a smoke free house now... well free of the baccy anyway. I go smoke outside every hour or so. It's good to take a break from the sound for 10 minutes or so and I seem to have a flood of ideas as soon as I walk outside.

The weirdest thing I do I probably hold a piss in because I am in the middle of working on something. Or I'll listen to it one more time before I quit about 20 times in a row haha.

Don't you get annoyed by the high pitched noise, the TV is constantly putting out or the movements in the corner of the eye? Or your TVs are behind you and you got all fancy LCD stuff?

I have a tendency to put a shitload of gain (sometimes up to 3 maxed out renoise "gainer" plugins) on my channels and then drop the master volume to about -22db to compensate.

I also name all my projects with random 3-5 character names and forget which song is which. Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes to find an old tune.

Put all my baccy stuff (rizla, filters, backy pouch) on my midi keyboard and to lazy to clean it off, so I tend to only play 5 notes out of the 25 on my keyboard then move around the notes where I want to via the mouse.

I've gotten into the habbit of doing some stuff in traktor first

1. gives me musical and structural ideas

2. I get a reference for the mix

3. Makes me think about how the track would work in a set

It's gotten to the point where I cant write unless I've done this first

lmao, I do the same thing sometimes if I'm starting to make a track I'm feeling..put it on loop, turn it up and walk around the house and such to see how it sounds....stand up and back away a bit first, then the bathroom, hallway, downstairs..lmfao

lets me know if the track is really bumpin or not

I'm beginning to either play video games or watch movies I've already seen while producing, helps me just let my creativity out rather than sitting down and trying to FORCE something out, but it's a movie I've already seen or a game I'm just fucking around on so I don't have to worry about missing out if I stop for a minute to add something to the track
