Do you think dubstep will be around long?

Post by flatland funk » Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:57 pm

Ive been listening for almost 2 years now and I love dubstep. I've seen people talking about it becoming commercial soon and dying out "just like drum n bass". I live in s. florida and the scene isnt too big but i was surprised to see the immense turnout at WMC. This makes me think that it has a lot of life. But whats your opinions on the matter?

dnb emerged in the early 90s and despite ups and downs is undoubtedly established genre that is strong in london and across the world to this day

dubstep has been around for what over 5 years now and has in the last couple become global, diversified and gained massively in popularity, I see no reason why it won't be around, like dnb is, for years to come

Just because you are a character, does not mean you have character.

Well Dubstep and it's incarnations have been around for at least 9 years in some form now yea?

I wouldn't call that young. Would you call Techno in 1993 young then? I mean it had been around for years, but it's still around now. So is DnB last I checked. You can still buy garage and grime. I know house is still around and now people call it something else(funky), but it's still there.

Alive and kickin man, 10 years from now, there will still be heads making Dubstep. There will be a lot less bandwagon jumpers and hangers on is my prediction.

the beginnings of this started in 2000-2001. its roughly 8-9 years old this year and this summer its bigger and more global than ever. just take a look at the event sections, and remember that 5 years ago, there were only about 5 parties a month , and most of those were in london or the uk only.

i remember a time when you were lucky if someone even posted up 1 rinse fm dj set a week. now there's two 24 hour dubstep radio stations and hundreds and hundreds of sets posted.

anyway, its not like the sound is boring.

As long as people continue to innovate in the genre, it'll stay around methinks.
