Jonathan Samuel Silverman --> jsilver
*No relation to Sarah Silverman or the actor Jonathan Silverman. Silverman was a common Ellis Island surname. Originally we are Srebrenic which means "silver mine." Pretty close to the English, no?

No, it sounds fine.jobbanaught wrote:I always wondered, does it sound silly in english?
The Widdler is an example of a name that doesn't translate well into UK English. In the UK, 'widdle' can easily be misconstrued as a cross between 'wank' and 'fiddle'. What makes this tragic, is that the next word that may spring to mind is 'kiddie'.........

Thus:
If you think I'm joking, listen to 'Sensi Samurai on the BBC Radio 1' on The Widdlers Myspace player. The presenter starts by saying the name 'sounds rude'. At the end of the track, he comments that it also means 'young boy in Japanese'!POLICE OFFICER to reprobate: What were you doing with that young boy?
REPROBATE: I was widdling him sir...

-------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently 'widdle' means something related to smoking ganja in the US???
ESKER: Why do you call yourself The Widdler?
THE WIDDLER: The name The Widdler doesn't really have one single meaning on its own. It comes from the twisted minds of North Jersey tokers. Basically meaning "one who smokes". Weed = widdz (a word invented by the ever changing vocabulary of a once Jersey Local Phil Zaytsev)
(Quote taken from an interview with the Widdler. The full interview can be found here ---> http://www.wizardsandglass.com/2009/02/ ... ddler.html)
I guess you guys in the states wouldn't have reason think of the word 'widdle' the same way as us here in the UK. You guys don't really use 'wanker' as a diss, and 'smoking a cigarette' is homophobic too!

Of course, the worst is that you pronounce Z 'zee' instead of 'zed'.

You Americans, twisting up our decent language with that filth....

-------------------------------------------------------------
Ps: @ The widdler if you read this - I had 'Day & Night' stuck in my head all day yesterday! Good shit!

Pps: No offense meant personally, just laying it down how it is!

Ppps: 'Same Way' is still one of my favourite tunes of all time!

Erm, as for me...just my bad to be honest. First 2/3 years of having turntables I pretty much exclusively mixed 70/80's funk, soul and disco...and it kind of worked back then lol
When it came to wanting to come up with a name I just went for the ask random people I knew to unexpectedly come up with a DJ name on the spot tactic.
The 3 choices that resulted were:
The Wiggle Baron
Internation Chocolate Chris (Big up Gurpal, aka G Money Slim every time

or...
Spinmaster Wanky Thrashback
To be honest, I think I missed an absoloute winner there.
Saturday nights 7-9pm GMT - Wiggle Baron @ SubFM!
