Deviaition ft Martyn and *Special* ft Madlib and J Rocc 6-5

Post by euan i » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:07 am

WED 6TH MAY 2009 AT GRAMAPHONE, LONDON.
SPECIAL GUEST: MARTYN, ALONGSIDE RESIDENT BENJI B.

Come and join us for the fourth Deviation session of 2009. The best midweek session in London returns to Gramaphone, E1.

Firstly - apologies to all of those who couldn't get in to see J*Davey - we had to turn away almost 250 people. To make up for it we've put together two huge line ups this month - now when we say please reach early, you know we really mean it...

After months of hype and anticipation, Dutch beats / dubstep / deep house, producer Martyn has just released his album Great Lengths on his own record label 3024 (20/04/2009), and it really is a killer. Tracks like "Vancouver", "These Words" and "Elden St" have been tearing down the Deviation club for the last year and it is our great pleasure to bring him over from Holland exclusively for a one-off Deviation session exclusive.

Rarely is there an independently released, self produced album that creates as much buzz and hype as this one has. Martyn comes from the D & B movement originally but has recently created a new sound that defies categorisation , and has blown up in the world of forward thinking beat creators, soulful electronic music DJs and dubstep fans alike. It is his exceptionally broad range of musical influences and unique vision that have brought about the richly diverse "Martyn Sound" we know the Deviation family will fully appreciate.

Martyn has been looking forward to Djing to our crowd and testing our incredible bespoke soundsystem for some time - Deviation is the environment that will allow him to stretch out and play a no compromise set.

We can't wait for what will undoubtedly be a heavy, sweaty dance floor session for all those who love deep bass-orientated soulful music. If you're not too sure - allow us to convert you.

WED 13TH MAY 2009: THE FIRST DEVIATION SPECIAL AT FABRIC, LONDON.
SPECIAL GUESTS: MADLIB & J. ROCC ALONGSIDE RESIDENT DJ BENJI B.

Introducing the very first installment of a new series in Deviation Specials, taking place at the world famous Fabric nightclub in London.

Keeping our midweek vibe on a Wednesday, we will have the club all to ourselves. We will be using Room One exclusively - the rest of the venue will be shut, and we'll be dressing the venue in a way that will bring all of the usual Deviation elements together. It’ll feel and look different to other nights at Fabric. Fabric’s Room One has one of the very best, if not the best sound system in the UK. Put simply, it is one of the best rooms to hear music in. To celebrate this meeting of minds, it seemed only fitting to get a hold of two of hip hop’s most original characters, imaginative innovators and, above all, music-loving crate diggers: Madlib and J. Rocc.

Madlib is one of the most prolific, freethinking and influential producers of the past decade. Without question Stones Throw's most famous artist, Madlib has one of the most incredible record collections and has one of the most phenomenal work rates ever seen. He makes so many beats a day that we can imagine it's hard for even those closest to him to keep up. From Lootpack to Quasimoto to Jaylib to remixing genres including jazz, reggae and Brasilian, to working with Erykah Badu, MF Doom and Talib Kweli - he has developed an almost cult like following amongst some music fans. He has influenced a whole generation of producers and created an unmistakably unique signature sound along the way.

In terms of skills and technique, J Rocc is without question one of the very best DJs on the planet. But his talents extend way beyond just beat juggling, cutting and the technical side - he is a serious selector with amazing taste in music and can rock a party whilst playing right across the board. He began DJing in the mid-'80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, including core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.

This event is not to be missed and will be the beginning of many one-off Deviation sessions to be hosted at Fabric. So come and join us as both Madlib and J Rocc cause a ruckus along side resident DJ Benji B!
