Swine Flu
Apparently there has been an outbreak of swine influenza in Mexico and 11 confirmed cases in Texas, California, and Kansas. The big deal is that this strain of Influenza has the possibility of becoming pandemic.

Only time will tell with this one. All of the confirmed cases in the U.S. have recovered completely or are in stable condition.
There have only been deaths in Mexico probably due to lower medical care standards.
Though I am not going to underestimate this because it is too early to tell. Scary stuff this is.

I am not trying to be a scare monger or anything. All of the links I have posted have been legitimate news sources such as Yahoo and the New York Times. I just thought I would give people a heads up.dubluke wrote:is this going to be as scary and dangerous as the time avian flu was going to be a pandemic??
Better get eating (not smoking) your leafy greens then people!
To be honest, we're due another pandemic, and as bad as it sounds, it's quite likely that there will be little we can do about it.
We're in a consistent battle against nature to try and keep healthy and stay alive - for a large part, unnaturaly so. Viruses and bacteria are a normal and vital part of our environment, yet we fight against them day in day out. The scale of these events is in part a natural reaction to the perpetuation of 'good health' by modern medicine.
Although the flipside would be that we never developed anti-biotics and allow all our old to die at the first sign of illness. There's a chance we'll be able to develop certain vaccines against whatever the next pandemic will be, but they won't be able to help a lot of people living in third world countries, or for the elderly or chronicly ill.
Have a nice day.

It will be very similar to the 1918 Flu pandemic which wiped out an estimated 2.5 - 5% of the globe. On a side note, did you know that Darwin's theory has been proven wrong?NilsFG wrote:Well if this IS gonna be a pandemic, it's just going to be like the plague, gonna kill thousands of millions, but in the end, the strongest DNA will survive.
Yay for Darwin, bitch!
