Toooo many Un-original "producers" in dubstep
Is it just me or is there to many Un-original "producers" in this scene?
It seems to me that anyone with production software and a myspace page and forum hype thinks they are an established producer .
I get at least 10-20 mails a days saying im such and such and i have had tunes out on xyz recordings(90% of the time a digital label) and i have just made these tracks and i think they would suit your label . nearly all if not all of the tunes sound like skream/caspa/martyn/2562/burial rip off's which are not even good rip off's.
1.If your tunes are good labels will notice you
2. at least if you're going to pimp yourself out try be original
3.if a label puts out deep sounds don't send them duckstep with a capleton vocal thrown on top or vise-versa dont send a duckstep label a deep tune.

yo there's too many man, too many many man
too many man, too many many man
it's loads worse than 12yr old grime producers anyway, 12yr old grime producers don't set up labels and perpetuate the mediocrity. Anyway, cut the brehs some slack if they're 12yr old, it's the one's who are old enough to know better who should step down!
And I play both CDJs and vinyl, I buy both digital and vinyl, but I'm not gonna pretend 90% of the shit stuff is coming out on digital labels.
I don't even need to listen to half the stuff on digital-tunes anymore; anyone else noticed the complete giveaway that is:
a) completely retarded "artist" names
b) completely retarded album titles
c) completely retarded song titles
d) completely retarded artwork
by retarded I mean either like complete scifi geek-out wankery, insertnameherestep, something "scary" or "dark", or even worse, completely unrelated adjectives like "filthy". You wot!? This is dubstep, not electro-house!!!
And for f*cks sake, most of the artwork on digital-tunes could have been made by my sister on paint. Literally. If any of you shit digital labels want to pay me Ps I will load up photoshop right now and do a better job of designing your labels "image" and promoting some sort of "integrity" or "identity".

Labels will SHELVE you, so they can release the other artists they already have on their label that sound like you but were cranking out tracks 5 years before you were.THE-VOICE-OF-REASON wrote: 1.If your tunes are good labels will notice you
My advise: get on a label that is in its same stage of development as your production career, and grow with the label. This may mean starting your own joint with a group of people you are tight with.
Trying to submit tracks to a huge label 30 days after you cracked Massive and made it spit out some presets is rediculous.
On the other hand....
Most big name artists who get signed to a first timer label toss that label their left over samples of them banging on a trash can for 4 minutes, then charge the label owner most of their contingency money for the material, and it flops like a fish out of water.
oh no too many people want to make music!! !!! wtf are we gonna doooooooooo

99% here don't care if someone makes tunes or not, but those 99% do care if those tunes are good or not.-boring wrote:oh no too many people want to make music!! !!! wtf are we gonna doooooooooo

This discussion isn't about the number of producers there are, but the number of BAD producers there are.
For me, I don't care if there are 100 dubstep producers or 1000000 producers, as long as they put some time and dedication into the music, and not thoughts about money or thoughts like "omg i need to make musik or ppl wont like me".
Same things with DJ's.
