sleep deprivation

Post by caunterstrike » Sun May 10, 2009 9:59 pm

does anyone else find that after staying up all night the production ideas in your head are really interesting. got back from a party this morning and had a million ideas i wanted to put down. problem i have is concentration long enough to get the whole track together and usually just make a few loops and hope i can continue with it tomorrow. am i alone on that one?

Definitely don't think you're alone on that one. I get ideas on the dance floor. Other times it's out of nowhere after tweaking the knobs for a while.

I don't really get ideas at night, but I always work better after midnight.

not sleep deprivation but immediately after a show i've got millions of ideas for a few days... maybe it was more that than the lack of rest lol

Definitely...

And to be honest, as long as I am properly inspired... my productivity is quite tight till about 3 or 4 am. I can push myself further if needed (deadline) with good results...

...but will usually wrap up a 'normal' days work by about 2am cos I have a day job and 2 kids. The days of pulling a 'sickie' cos I worked on tunes too late at night and want to sleep till 11am and resume working on em are gone... hehehe

That said, having to alter my work habits to fit family life has not restricted my inspiration or the quality of my tunes in the slightest. I find it takes a bit longer to finish some tracks, but that said- I had a creative binge on Saturday morning/afternoon where I wrote & finished 4 tracks and finished another 7 that were in progress (all in the span of about 10 hours). Haven't done that in ages... WOW.

I always work better at night yea, I've had a whole day to influence my ideas then :D

Very rarely produce before mid day, the only case being if I've already got a solid idea down so I don't really need to create anything new, I just need to fill it out and make it sound good.
