Kompakt - Total 7

Kompakt's latest compilation that came out back in August...
I'm really feeling the bits by Wighnomy Bros, Superpitcher, and Gui Boratto to name a few. Anyone else into this?

Yeah, not the best Total by a longshot but still worth a listen. The "Like you" Supermayer remix is such a guilty pleasure of mine, real pop house stuff I'd get a right slagging if my friends heard me listening to it

Yeah some of the tunes don't settle well with me either.
Although there are enough gems in here making it worth the purchase.
I can't get that organ drone from 'Arquipelago' out of my head :e:

Also surprised that Matias Aguayo's 'De Papel' didn't make the compilation.
One of my personal favorites from him...
Although nowhere near as good as 'Slow' with Mayer back on Total 6.

Can anyone recommend any other compilations similar to this?

I been feeling some of the 'Famous When Dead' series, but similarly there is a lot of filler I can't get into.

i don't know any compilation (it's not so much my kind of music really) but what maybe might interest you, is the first release of a new label run by glimpse distributed by Kompakt with beats by Steevio (Mindtours), Nax Acid,Anderson Noise, Darc marc

dunno this album, but if you like house music you should check out dominik eulberg, wighnomy brothers, the new mymy album or the compilations on perlon.

eulberg is bad! his 'kreucht & fleucht' cd is one of the best mixes i've heard in a while. yeah, i should explore more of the perlon compilations.

im reasonably well versed in other brands of contemporary techno, but have yet to embark on the kompakt school with the vigour it obviously deserves... which of the total compilations represent the peaks?

honestly i got no idea bro. I only been listening to this label for a couple of years now... ever since the mfa track on holden's 'balance 005' mix pointed me in the direction. speaking of which james dropped some of the stuff off of total 7 when he played at pacha in nyc. definately some of the highlights of his set, including upcoming tunes from his personal album.

Kompakt just hasn't captured my ear at all. Tried really hard to get into it about 4 or so years ago, as all my mates were constantly banging on about it.

In fact the whole minimal house thing has passed me by really especially the Villalobos, Hawtin, Perlon sound etc. Although it might have something to do with becoming a dubaholic

I used to be well into stuff like Cytrax, Delay, Context, Edit Audio, Jasper, Sutekh, Kit Clayton, Safety Scissors etc. Basically the 'glitchy' stuff that (for me) certainly went some way to inspiring the 'minimal' sound, but the sonic experiments of the US west coast will always be way superior to the recent 'berlin' sound.

Saying that though Playhouse, ~scape and Trapez have served up some damn fine germanic technoesque minimalness.
