Not sure what dubstep is not dubstep anymore means? Anyways the way I see it is the scene is opening up or rather nights are incorporating more styles which is only a good thing. For me when going out I want an inclusive approach to the music listening experience rather than an isolationist one. Just my 2 cents. :)

I always have these friends who are like, "music sucks now" "movies suck now" "tv sucks now" "shit was better before..." etc etc etc

You know what I always tell them?

"You're not looking hard enough."

'tis true - I have actually been mixing my old jungle again - Dope Dragon, Philly Blunt, V, TOV etc and it sounds so fresh

the sound is so raw - the clipped crispy snares and the low rumbling subs
the extensive use of samples etc -

I wonder if as the sound developed, like dubstep has, it has a tendency to creep into the mid-range frequencies and lose something

maybe why old Loefah, Skream etc tracks sounded so sick - they were just about the top and bottom ends?

anyone?

yeah tbf I only have a few of his mixes from kiss, but I don't think there is anything wrong with his mixing. These are only mixes where hes with mala or anti social or youngsta so the tune selection is going to be sick, however I haven't been to a night with hatcha there so I wouldn't know what sort of tunes hes mixing at nights. Gota admit heard skream on rinse the other night and the selection of tunes he was playing were seriously poor imo. N-type used to do the best rinse sets with the best tunes, now i'm not to keen on his selection of tunes apart from the odd mala or coki dub.

Many people agree that 90% of music is crap, however, they will not agree on which 10% is good.

If it all sounded the same as it did "back in the day" you would have a ton of records that all sound the same. You just have to dig a little deeper when shopping for tunes now that there is more filler material.
