Yes, those songs are being sold for money, you are giving them away for free.

That's not cool.

ANY THOUGHTS?

Nero's brand new EP has been posted along with close to 100 others. The whole of Herve's Ghetto Bass album is on there.

edit: links removed. this is not acceptable!

To be honest I listen to tons of tunes on youtube. That is the way I get into music, and when I get into it I buy the vinyl. But I guess I'm still supporting illegal activity...

Youtube is a little different becuase you're not giving out high quality versions. Sure you can rip audio off the videos but it will never be as good as a proper version, I actually think youtube is a good promotional tool.

As for uploading actual bought tracks for other people to download, its pretty wrong and would piss me off if I found something I'd done for free download (even stuff I've given out myself) for download without my consent!
Out Now:
DD005 - Retrospect
MRS029 - Connected/Lovin' You
DAR010 - Santogold - Shove It (remix) 12"
SET003 - Bob Marley - Is This Love (remix) 12"
Echodub Loves Volume 2 - White Room
FTW Records Digital - Panic Room
FTW Free Compilation - Get Up (a.k.a Symphony)

in an ideal world piracy wouldn't make a big difference to record sales. people actually once used to care more about music and bought the records they liked. Piracy has always been around and tape trading was even a supported culture/movement in the underground. Still bands sold their releases (the tape trading scene actually helped this). Nowadays people sit in front of their computer and download everything, rip everything. That's my main gripe with the whole music scene and it's "listeners", nobody cares about music anymore, it became totally disposable to them. mp3's and everything are very convenient but were people happy with a tape dub of an album they totally dug? fuck all the bloggers and message boards leeching music. I simply can't understand why it is so hard to put well known piracy message boards and torrent sites out of business even if their servers were located on some remote pacific island?

hes kind of a douche for putting those songs on there for download but at the same time

no one makes bank from digital releases. at the end of the day digital releases only gain chump change, which i think is fair because it took no extra cost outside of the usual mastering and advertising. all they needed was 10 mb of space. where as if they want to get records printed they are actually shelling out the money themselves.

its proven that piracy increases the amount of people who go to the shows, which is where the big bucks are made anyway.

if every digital release was free, i think every big producer would be making MORE money because more people who wouldn't have taken a chance with the buy, would be new fans.

but having said that, its still up to the producer and label, and this guy should probably stop what hes doing

well, since it's blatantly obvious it's one guy, and his domain is registered in his name, and the going rate is 80,000 dollars per mp3... I'd sue the living fuck out of him.

So basically you have a blog where you give away mp3's for free and you're complaining about another guy who gives away mp3's for free in his blog?
You're every bit as bad as him regardless if you buy your mp3s first and then give them away.
