free release - an empty canvas

Post by laag » Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:24 pm

hello.

ive been lurking here for a long time. i even registered once, but never posted. i read a lot about the production stuff. this thread was an eyeopener. fishbone to sampling.

finally i finished some tunes im happy with for now. theyre on an empty canvas ep.
Image
it is free to download (flac or 320kbps) over at bandcamp.

i cant say what i would compare it too, just tried to follow my own thing - even though i must admit i am heavily influenced by that burial (thread). ive been sampling youtube + beats off the grid all the time. feel free to grab it or whatever. check track 6 if you only check one track.

ps; i hope it's ok to share here cuz i dont know if its considered dubstep enough. i dont mind if its deleted or moved...
ps2: i am coming from a more ambient angle, i've been producing for a while.

Absolutely beautiful!

Clearly a lot of work has gone in here - I'd recommend this

wow - friendly comments. thanks

fishbone = burial claimed he just moves his drum samples until it looks rigged like a fishbone. i like that idea.. so instead of clicking into a locked grid, i just dragged the samples around until it sounded good. (this will probably mean nothing if you never saw beat making software close up)
sampling = burial sampled pretty much anything (playstation games, movies, ..) and i sampled youtube. never was that much into sampling before.. so - most of the sound on this ep, was made thanks to that interesting burial producing thread.

just look up the thread i linked.. its explained over there..

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but just have to say mate - this is gorgeous! Surely someone would like to release this "properly". Some of the lushest dubsteppy sounding stuff I've heard for ages. Give MAH a holler! Reckon she'll love it too.

I'm not sure if you still post on here Wixel, and sorry for bringing this thread back up. But I have a question to ask about your production on the song Skatebeats...

Basically, are the strings sampled from somewhere or did you compose them yourself with some sort of VST? Also, what did you use to get that great sounding bass in the song? I'm struggling to get my bass sounding as good as that.

Thanks for the help.
