Post by sonny w » Fri Jul 17, 2009 4:00 pm

Just started getting into Dubstep, need to know the ESSENTIAL tunes that i can buy on itunes.
I like the hard kind of dubstep, like what RESO makes.

Don't go to Itunes.
Try Beatport, Juno, or Boomkat.
Start listening to some of the internet radio shows listed in this forum to get up to speed & check out the mix section of the forum and start downloading mixes with tracklistings so you can start figuring out who/what you like.

Snoop Dog millionaire

I think Snoop is a pretty cool guy. he makes wobbles and doesn't afraid of anything.

Spend a few days.

Rough responses. Sorry, man! Essentially, here, we're promoting dubstep, so we should probably make an effort.

I'd definitely have a snoop around YouTube and MySpace for dubstep tracks - it's brilliant for having a listen and finding a sound you like.

I don't know if it's the same for anyone else, but I found it really hard to get into mixes initially. I think these'll make for a good briefing.

Check out Skream's Keep Watch Mix - it's a few months old, but I bladdy love it. The track list is on that page too.

I absolutely bum Pacheko and Cardopusher's Tranquera mix.

http://www.tranquera.org/2008/05/02/pac ... rdopusher/

Individual tracks from that mix might be hard to find, but it's a brilliant listen.

Plastician's 2008 mix is a banger.

Best of all, they're free, so knock that iTunes shit on the head.

Alot of good dubstep isn't even available from the proper digital shops, let alone iTunes...

Heres a few artists/labels to look out for:

Deeper stuff:
Pinch & Distance
Headhunter
Digital Mystikz (Mala/Coki)
Breakage
anything on Deep Medi/Disfigured Dubz/DMZ

More aggressive, in your face stuff:
16bit
Bar 9
Caspa/Rusko
Datsik
stuff on Wicky Lindows/Suicide Dub

basically just do some research and find out what you like, there is TONS of stuff on youtube.

EDIT: And forget iTunes. From what I've noticed, Beatport is probably the best online shop for dubstep, Juno download probably has good stuff too but I've never checked.
Out Now:
DD005 - Retrospect
MRS029 - Connected/Lovin' You
DAR010 - Santogold - Shove It (remix) 12"
SET003 - Bob Marley - Is This Love (remix) 12"
Echodub Loves Volume 2 - White Room
FTW Records Digital - Panic Room
FTW Free Compilation - Get Up (a.k.a Symphony)
