Heavyweight Synths

Post by futures_untold » Wed Jul 29, 2009 4:54 pm

Which are the heaviest, most feature laden softsynths out there?

I'm trying to find as many truly amazing synths as possible. The 'Best Of' 'Best Of' sort of thing... :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My definaition of a synth with good features; Synths must include lots or all of the following:

Modular or semi modular routing
Multiple synthesis types
PWM and waveshaping on complex waveforms, not just pulsewaves
FM, RM, AM and osc sync between oscillators
Multi stage or custom envelopes
Custom user waveforms
etc etc.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So far I'd rate the synths listed below for having excellent features.

----Payware Synths With Decent Feature Sets----

Camel Audio Alchemy
Spectrasonics Omnisphere
Tone2 Gladiator
NI Absynth
NI Massive
Cakewalk Rapture
u-he Zebra
Vember Audio Surge
Cakewalk z3ta+
Rob Papen Albino 3
Rob Papen Blue

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following synths give the majority of payware synths a serious run for their money....! :o ;)

----Free & Donationware Synths With Excellent Feature Sets----

----Sonic-Lion Nitrox----

Image

----Fuzzpilz Oatmeal----

(Thankfully, lots of alternative skins are available!) :)

lF_Lumina Skin

GJ-Blueberry Skin

----Green Oak Crystal----

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I missing any? Can you recommend any others?

(I'm not talking about which synths you like the sound of, or like using, only those with excellent feature sets!) ;)

Thanks

I don't really like the GUI design and layout, but it is capable of big things! Users can load their own oscillator waveforms, and it has those custom envelopes :U:

yeah it is a bit strange.

three weeks ago I came across this site called DSK, all freeware, there were synths there that I'd use on the regular. they're not superspectacular or anything but they are an option.

yeah futures nailed it with that top 3 although omnisphere's the real daddy over alchemy
Gladiator sounds very nice, can easily be made too wide though
Followed closely by zebra
No mention of FM8 yet?

Very true. Although only the beta version of Helix is free, its now under commercial license.

Predator beats Albino you reckon? (Blue still beats both haha)
