Is the sub in this tune too high??
alrite dudes - fairly nu to the forum so hello to everyone - im currently defecting from the DnB side of the fence, (as it just seems to be copying dubstep's ideas these days,) and have been having a go at a bit of production - got this tune on the go at the mo but I cant quite place my sub. when i produced dnb my sub was always quite high but as i did mostly liquid-esqe stuff that was ok, i cant quite get it to sound right on this beat tho. its the dirty south sub preset on subtractor, osc's at 4 n 5 with notes at C1 if that helps

Use a frequency analyser to see where it's peaking. People have different definitions of sub bass, I like to think its anything below ~90Hz, so try not to stray too far out of that. YMMV.

you don't need a preset for sub, and you don't want more than 1 oscillator. the best option is a pure sine wav, as it is the boomiest, although pure triangle, saw and square waves make nice alternatives if you don't want it to be as huge.
but what you want is just one pure, unfiltered or carefully lowpassed sine wav.

Yeah above 30hz and less than 90hz is a good reference. It's hard to judge a sub but doing an A/B comparison with an already mastered track can help you in finding the right level.
