though he's rambling a lot of bullshit here, hes partially right in a sense.

timbaland and the dirty south crunk movement was making futuristic half step beats way before loefah decided to implement that into dubstep.

of course the UK put their own twist to it with more advanced, and even further futuristic sounds and amazing basslines but the hip hop influence is literally undeniable.

If any of these tracks were to be dropped today (obviously with a little tweaking) it would be considered straight up dubstep.

I realise this is an old thread and also a pretty stupid debate (haven't bothered reading most of the thread for that reason) but just thought I may as well throw my opinion in here.

At the end of the day, as much as I think that Crunk Tesla bloke is a massive jeb end, there's no denying that in some way dubstep has taken some influence from hip-hop, but then its also taken influence from shit loads of forms of music the same way hip-hop has, so to argue over the exact origins and the exact influences of a certain genre is just silly as there is no ONE influence and ONE origin and ONE specific way it came about. To some degree everything has taken influence from everything else, whether that be directly or indirectly. Everything you have ever done, seen, heard, experienced has influenced you in some shape or form, so I think the people who deny any UK influence over hip-hop or crunk are just as bad as those who deny any US influence over dubstep - at the end of the day it all comes full-cycle.

I think another major thing that guy seems to forget is that dubstep isn't just simply a genre of music - it started as a culture, a movement - a collective of people in a certain area who were all making music in a similar style with a similar vibe, which just ended up being called dubstep.
