Funnily enough I hadn't been to a DMZ in sometime, think it was the other time Goth Trad played there - which I think predates your interest in dubstep pretty much entirely right right? Had a great time last night, but there's no doubt the chin-stroking, blokey wannabe contingent dominate the vibe in a way that did not used to be the case.

It's always love baby, but the point is that we can all make observations. You indulged in a little cheap status play not seriously entertaining the possibility that I would read it, you got called on it and that probably should be that.

you are actually feeling that experimental housey crap loefah played? the best thing involving loefah that night was when 'Just a beat' got played in the Mystikz set. That housey crap is not what it's all about in my opinion, not quite funky enough to be funky not deep half steppy enough to be dubstep.

might sound like im complaining a lot, was a great night, but COKI IS WAYYYY OVERRATED. I can appreciate a couple tearouty coki tracks as much as the next person, but my man literally played 10 tunes with the same sounds reworked and everyone went nuts for every one. How many more tracks like this is he going to make?? The best track he played was old hope, and the old vocally bits (burnin, gangsta 4 life)

that being said, it was an amazing night, and the sound system was something else!

I read threads like this after every DMZ and I get so jealous.

I'll make it down there sometime. I just hope the vibes stay as awesome untill I get there.

i agree that some of coki's tearout comes across a bit underwhelming and it does get a bit boring if people are going ape shit to everything he plays, but i wouldnt say he is over rated. some of the tunes he has made are actually unparalleled and the production techniques he uses on the tracks that he gets really right are pretty damm sick.

as for the loefah stuff, you hit the nail on the head saying its not quite anything because thats what its meant to be and why people are catching on to it. its a fresh sound and its good to hear familiar producers giving their take on a different style. thats what gives it a buzz and makes it interesting and gets people opening their ear to it. after a while you dont wanna hear the same type of stuff all the time so its good to have a welcoming change.

why has it got to be strictly "funky" or strictly "dubstep, theres always gonna be a middle ground and producers are free to explore that if they want. sticking to what you know too much just stagnates everything, its good to shake it up and knock down some boundaries. why cant we enjoy the surpises in an unknown space insted of focusing on what our comfort zones are.

i get it though if the sounds and the beat patterns aint your cuppa, but personally i think its expressing the same basic ideas as dubstep but its just on a 4x4 beat pattern with some house influenced percussion. if you dont like house then i get why you rather not listen to productions tryna go that way.

For me DMZ is all about seeing/hearing new tunes & music. Pushing all sounds. So i think what Loefah is doing at the moment is exactly the same as the reason i fell lin love with the night in the first place!

DMZ don't advertise themselves as a dubstep rave, just bass music.

I'm a big fan of loefahs new sound, but I'm not too fond of it at DMZ... dunno why, its kinda like when I heard kode9 do a funky set there, I liked the tunes but didnt feel like it worked with the vibe there

an idiot? nah rudeboy just because i want to hear loefah play a deep dubstep set at dmz that doesnt make me an idiot. I've seen loefah before and he played half housey half dubstep and I just expected him to play at least half set of dubstep at the holy grail of dubstep

i do accept he's on a different tip, one I'm not feeling

easy man, must have missed this when i commented above. Yeah I see what your saying (about the stuff loefah played) and some of it wasn't too bad, just not to my taste I suppose. Also I was blazing the whole night, not drinking so the housey stuff did kill my mood a little bit.

it was diff but that doesnt mean it was shit. rig was boomin sounded heavy. loefahs set was deep was not expecting it but it worked for me. cant believe no one mentioned mensah.....well i liked the set neways lovin them futuristic tunes atm. missed goth trad (screwin) opening tune was live but i looked at the time n its a mission bak from brixton for me n i thought ill get out while i can still walk. another welcome change is now i can be on dragon stout n zoots all night without havin to change to lager even tho 3.50 for one is a bit steep. change isnt always bad and even if u didnt like it atleast now u can talk about how it aint like it used to be.

Mensah- maaaaaaaad energy on stage- debut'ed in a big way
Loe dropped some offkey bits, some of which sounded amazing on the system, and then Goat Stare at the end
Mala and Coki- standard big set- waiting in anticipation for every tune whenever Mala stepped fwd to the decks..atmosphere upped several levels when they were on..
Goth Trad- for me, set of the night, tunes were f**ked, i would love a tracklisting..would imagien its mostly, if not all Goth Trad production
Cyrus was bringing it tight and weighty, but by just after 5 i had to go an flyer in the cold..

I was watching this from the seats. Was in fucking hysterics, both brehs were soooo cunted. Fuck knows what on. Bare weirdos there, the headbanger, the oddball who kept climbing up on the speakers infront of the stage. Sick night though, missed Dub Mechanics and half of Mensah unfortunately but every set was quality. Goth-Trad the highlight for me for sure.

As for the Loefah x house/funky argument, I wish you bores would stop moaning.

McDonalds was a fucking joke, had some crazy munchies so ended up queueing for about half an hour. In hindsight it was fucking stupid but you don't understand how hungry I was. 'Nuff mentalists in there aswell.
