Last time I checked, my council tax was paying for parks, roads, libraries, schools, rubbish collection, streetlights, buses etc etc etc. That's why it's called 'council tax' and not 'sorting out your rubbish for you except that actually we won't we'll make you do that yourself while we spend the money on drugs tax'. I'd rather have to spend 0.2 seconds putting cardboard in a different bin than have the council either dump everything in landfill or cancel something I actually care about in order to pay for a whole load of people to sort through rubbish.

Sorry man, didn't mean to get you all up in arms. I don't think you should have to pay a parking ticket if you come to your car 2 minutes late. They'll normally throw those sorts of things out in court anyway. I do agree, however, that if you do enjoy the things that living under government can provide, then you should pay your taxes properly, pay all applicable fines you accrue, and just bitch about it like the rest of us grown ups. Don't come up with wily schemes to get out of it, while willingly benefitting from the good parts. Children do that. Stuffing feathers up your ass does not make you a chicken...

I don't dispute that a lot of stuff is underfunded and that there are people in the council feathering their own nests at the expense of the services that they're meant to be providing, but do you think if you (for instance) don't sorting your rubbish and evade the fine for it they're going to say "holy cow, I'd better stop creaming off the top and start sorting people's rubbish out for them"? Or just dump it in landfill?
