when I was 17 I was recording a lot of experimental ambient/electro/drone music under the name Omoi...had one release on a free label. I'm embarrassed by most of it now but I guess I'll link to it in case anyone is interested. my favorite part about it was the awesome blurb the label guy wrote about it:
"coarse electro-ambient music for the future tribe. a harsh blend of real instruments, transhuman vox and static-drenched textures."
I have to say, Im honestly surprised how much stuff is turning up in here, diverse playlist this thread.

good to see that not everyone wants to be making the 'datsik/skrillex/borgore/excision' sound! id like to say im experimenting but keeping in some of the genres conventions.. am moving onto the future garage sound but with a proper dark twist to it

How is it less experimental to come up with new sounds. You guys love to hate on them for trying to sound the same, when in real fact, most of you couldn't do it yourselves. Say that "It All Sounds The Same", when in their tunes, there's more differentiation than low frequency sine waves and tambourines. Just because someone's doing their thing doesn't mean they aren't experimenting. Their sound and style is blatantly a product of their experimentation, and I'm pretty sure they go through a bunch of sounds before they have their end product..

my last experimental track was a live piece with some serious free doom-drone elements and a robot rolling around on a peice of sheet metal. the robot was programmed to detect the edge of the table and turn away. the table was contact mic'd through some effects pedals.
the second part of it my buddy had a bunch of video clips cued up with samples being manipulated by "Conway's Game of Life"
the piece was called Man against Machines... and well i think you know who wins.

Don't want to spam this thread with my experimental stuff, but it said to shamelessly post your shit, so...
Two more experimental tracks from 2009. I recorded these in one marathon session with some Casios, effects boxes, and an old Tascam 4-track cassette mixer. I really miss that thing, beautiful warm sound and it really forced me to write songs in a more organic way, but I didn't have room for it when I moved to college. Anyway, check em out:

Ello, been coming here a while but this is my first post, interesting thread this, really enjoyed a lot of the sounds put up, reckon experimentation is the name of the game to be honest, before starting making what I would only loosely describe as dubstep I was in bands for years ranging from full on wall of noise stuff akin to whitehouse/merzbow etc to punk to ska n reggae (what can I say diversity is my mistress, lol), the thing that first interested me in dubstep as a genre was that it is (was) quite experimental and diverse in nature, anyhoo, here's a likkle something vaguely experimental.
Before I started this Wests project with my mate, I made real weird techno and acid and REAL weird sampled hip hop type stuff…. The hip hop is ready to be release mastered and that but im not sure still….
We try to experiment always still whether it is with sounds, structures etc etc…. We like to work with a lot of low level detail going on, hiss, reverbs etc…. and we always try to place the entire tracks within a world of their own, so dry but too dry, you should be able to notice the auras n shit, stuff aint right in your face, there is like a little moat of ambience around everything…
Concepts are nice as well.. . like giving birth (not literally) sounds, sounds that give birth to other sounds…. Etc etc…
Anyway, have a little listen in the link below…. (they all work better on speakers as opposed to headphones (they work on headphones as well)….

Basic A never stated that the brostep or whatever isn't experimenting. He simply asked for experimental stuff that IS NOT dubstep. But people come in here assuming this topic picks on people who don't experiment by doing whatever other stuff, its not the case.
Like if you're in a restaurant and order some grilled chicken and the waiter be like 'whats wrong with beef, beef is meat too!'. Yes it is but I dont feel like eating beef now ffs. Sorry for the weird analogy
