yeh i had to hit the paper earplugs too. Forgot mine at home.
the problem with the system was in the high mids - i reckon from about 3k - 6k was disproportionately loud. Also as those frequencies were coming from the speakers flown above the stage they penetrated through the whole room.
the bass was cool if u were right in front of the system. It didnt have the penetrating FWD Funktion 1 feel to it tho.
I think the rented subs were underpowered too...the amp was running on red but they weren't actually that loud. BAss frequencies require a huge amount of energy, and you dont wanna stess the amp cos then it delivers them less accurately.
Another problem was that the sound was being mixed from the stage, which means the engineer cant make adjustments to what he or she is hearing. they have stand facing the stage & listen, then go to the mix position to make any changes, back off the stage etc...
