Satan is only part of the situation. People have their own fault in the fact that we choose to do what is evil when we know what is right. Satan doesn't make you do anything, he only suggests.

because these people do. and what they believe satan wants is for all people (you included) to suffer. They want you to suffer whether or not you believe in God/Satan, that is why it is a bad thing.

Yeah, that's what he means. To others, satan represents something entirely different. Not a deity/entity or anything "evil", rather it's just symbolic of "living outside the box" if you will. A kind of middle-finger to mainstream western religions.

Did you find that on an EDL message board? A bit funny that a group founded on the idea of fighting 'Islamic extremism' should hark back to Britain's religious wars that we fought because... well... the Pope said we should. (Is my history waay off?)

No, you're pretty much bang on... though the crusades were only really about religion on the surface. It was empire building under any-other-name - it just handily happened that almost all the territory 'we' wanted was beyond Southern Europe and so in the hands of Muslims... and at the time, the best way to encourage the Knightly class to go slaughtering-and-raping was to tell them the enemy was heathen and they'd get into heaven if they killed them all without looking afraid.... the perfect storm for a couple of really good goes at genocide.
I imagine the EDL think the Crusaders rode out chanting "Engerland Engerland Engerland" and politely gave the barbarians the chance to repent before they introduced them to their broadswords.

Apparently, to the disgust and embarrassment of the chroniclers, quite a bit of cannibalism went on. This was dutifully cut out and kept out of the official histories for a fair bit too.

EDL are their own worst enemies. Expose their poor ideology above needlessly slating the members to let people know the truth, they'd soon be turned off them. Although maybe I'm giving the general public too much credit.
Anyway, the Crusades are cool to learn about man, some seriously interesting stuff. Could read about the Crusades all day.
Although probably completely fabricated, this has got to be the poorest Crusade ever.
