i like deep dark dubstep as much as the next man, but i get well tired of hearing a set composed of only that one tiny style... from another thread:

in a way, incnic is right about this sound being the new brostep, not in terms of aesthetics, but in terms of being formulaic

Something I've noticed about Dungeon...it is comprised of the following words:

Dung - excrement, especially of animals; manure.

Eon - an indefinitely long period of time; age.

There's some great 'dungeon' shit but fuck if i can listen to more than an hour. 808's detuned pads and hella sustain just dont always do it for me

well it's not the same is it because 'roots only' guys know they are restricted in their taste, they aren't kidding themselves

whereas I know a bunch of people that go on about how eclectic their tastes are because they like 'deep, funky, and jump up' like that makes you some kind of amazingly open minded music listener or something

Seems pretty clear people are talking about a specific strain of dubstep. At the same time as thinking the name dungeon is stupid, I don't get people's issue with using terms for different (sub)genres. They exist to help people define certain music.

When a genre title is defining the music that you make- which I think is happening a lot here- that's when there's a problem IMO.

I fail to see how "dungeon" is any worse of a name than "grime".

Grime has been a slang word for time

things being Grimey etc. was jus a standard

i dont know any kids that go around callin things 'Dungeon'

Toast phrase - "Deep, Dark, Dungeons Sound" > (b/w - Sleeper & District - Dungeon Style) > 'Dungeon Sound' > 'Dungeon'.

I'm getting more and more fed up with dubstep in general. Everything is becoming more and more formulaic from all ends of the spectrum and it is losing the flair that made it what it was. I'm not saying I don't like it cos I really do love dubstep and there are one or two tracks being released that still do it for me however, I find that things below 140 are exciting me a whole lot more, Swamp's releases, loads of uk funky, loads of the deeper house stuff. It all seems a whole lot more flexible and less of a bandwagon. That's what dubstep feels like to me now, you got a bunch of different bandwagons and each person from each bandwagon thinks their bandwagon is the best/freshest/more credible bandwagon. At the end of the day they all feel like bandwagons though.

It's sad, I remember how dubstep used to make me feel, I was well excited by the potential of this new emerging sound and it felt so amazing, now it just bores me. I hate that I feel this way about it though really.

It's kind of part of the reason i've been really getting into production lately and, especially remixes. I hate the idea of being an artist who only ever makes remixs but I feel I have found something that works really well fo me. I love taking tunes that used to really inspire me from dubstep as I wish it still was and try and make them feel new, fresh and exciting again.

meh, everything's just opinion innit and mine aint much better than the next.

On a different note, heard a 12th planet tune the otherday that proper surprised me. can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it felt like the dubstep I fell in love with in the first place.

best 140 stuff i've heard recently is Kahn's Sonic Router mix... that mix blew me away

London Dungeon...

Can People stop calling the Police about improper use of the word "dubstep". It describes one genre that has a million other subgenres. Just like the word rock n roll.

I have been saying this for months now; I haven't heard a 'dungeon' track whats made me go "WOW" in a couple of months and I can't bare to listen to a whole set of it, even at a club (unless its youngsta on a good system).

Most of the stuff I am hearing these days is just slow down Neurofunk anyways, its all a bit boring!

Diversity is the only thing what makes a good mix/set - I have been dropping "dungeon" into tunes like Forever (Simon/off) and Reminising (the Geoim Dubplate mix) lately and thats a amazing blend of bounce and grit - some DJs just need to spice it up a little and stop conforming to the same washed-out sounds - thats how things over saturate.
