for sure. i remember helping my local record store find and order it. went from 0 to fifty records in about a year... now it's a whole section!
Aren't you in the Seattle area? What record shop is this?
mostly i helped easy street records in queen anne (the vinyl guy there was my wedding officiate) , but i also talked the guys at platinum and zions gate into starting to order dubstep (this was in 05) easy and zions jumped right on it, while the platinum guys told me it was just slow dnb and would be over in a year  nerds

Vaccine is still going strong, as far as I know, her album is nearly complete, and from what I've heard, it's sounding bloody good.
Also, the S&D project is on the shelf for the meantime, in case no one knew, we are now called Scarecrow, & Flatline, lots to come still 8) .
Anyways... Who remembers J Da Flex's legendary 'Underground Knowledge' show on 1xtra?
The 'Grime' EP launch party at the End
When Scuba was called 'Spectr' or simply Paul Rose
8 Bar & Sublow
Zed Bias & Ms Dynamite's set at FWD's bday bash 2003
Also laughing at the teenie beef on Dubplate.net's 'Crews' section... (I am going back a bit though....)
Aaah, the good old days

When NOTHING was forthcoming Swamp 81.

I liked dubstep longggg before I knew what dubstep was haha. I remember being 10/11, and my this kid who lived near my mate was showing us all these El-B tunes. When I heard "Express" again when the Roots of El-B came out, I was like, shiiiiit I remember this, was convinced it must've been in the charts at some point  Sparked my love of El-B again. When it actually was callled dubstep though, I'd heard stuff like Burial - Burial when it came out and was like :o and I'd heard a few bits like Qawwali, Haunted, etc. and I thought they were sick but I wouldn't say I followed it as such. Was too busy being majorly into shoegaze (still am tbh), so when people said to me (around 2007/08) "do you listen to dubstep?", I'd be like "what's that?" and they'd say like, Nero, Chase & Status etc., so I'd be like "nahh, I don't then"

Then I blazed up zoot in Vauxhall Colosseum and then shot someone for a bassline.

The beginning and end of fabriclive 37 is good, i always thought the middle had too many self indulgent rusko comedy tracks in it.

SLT Mob – Stopper
Chase & Status – Wise Up
Mark One – Rain Dance
Shimano – Blues
Darqwan – Said The Spider
Bogeyman vs DJ Lombardo – Through The Keyhole

Search & Destroy – Mark Of The Beast
Wiley – Freez Instrumental
Vex’d – Lion
Geeneus – The Journey (Shimano RMX)
Fyrus – Jaws
Daluq – Supafine
Skream – Who R Those Guys
Loefah – Twisup VIP (Youngsta & Task RMX)

“Although it never really got the props it deserved, the music loosely known as breakstep is one of the defining influences on what I do. Chopped up drums with a slight jungle / dnb edge (without being referential to the point of parody), plenty of bass, but with the mid-range held back enough to imply darkness rather than pile the rage on with a spade, and a bit of swing and bounce to the beats to link it with the emerging dark garage and dubstep scenes. J Da Flex’s much-missed show on 1Xtra was the place for the weekly update on these bits, and one of my career highlights is the fact that J played one of my bits on his mix for John Peel’s show way back when.

Anyway, all these tunes kind of came out as garage was dying, grime was starting to move away from hype instrumentals into more MC-dominated territory, and as dubstep was still figuring out what it was supposed to sound like – ie. a time of massive musical flux. Which is sort of where we’re at right now – in a bit of a state of flux, not entirely sure where things are going to go next… So this mix is a bit of tribute to the last time things felt like this. All done on vinyl, and for some random reason on a rotary mixer, which is categorically NOT the right kind of mixer for this kind of stuff!”

thank god vex'd got me into dubstep despite all the 2step and garage i owned and dubstep before it was called that
Speaking of Vex'd... why haven't we heard anything about them in quite a while now?

To stay on topic: When you have to explain who Mala is...

Here's a little conversation I had with someone at work recently who noticed me checking this forum:

"Oh! Do you also listen to Dubstep bro?"
"... Uhh.. Yeah.. But not the mainstream Dubstep that you probably listen to."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, Skrillex and all that."
"Skrillex is sick man! Do you know Sinister Souls or Going Quantum? They're fucking huge bro. "
"No, I don't actually."
"Well what kind of Dubstep do you listen to then?"
"Mala for instance, but you probably have no idea who that is."
"...No. But there are lots of bands nowadays that are underground you know."
"..."

He literally used the word bands...
And then there are people talking about how we have to educate the new ones to the scene. Well believe me, I fucking tried, but it's just no use.
Most of the time they say such retarded things that I just give up. Fuck it.
had this conversation too many times. i'm always hesitant when telling people i like dubstep now so i try to say bass music haha!
lol ..'bands' :u:
