I'm all for mature interesting music discussions but this has just turned into (or was to start off anyway) "oh this is not my thing therefore its shit and everyone whose into it is obviously jumping on the bandwagon" and its so fucking boring and a lot of it just stinks of denial of dubstep heads being annoyed that previously dubstep producers are trying something different and not wanting to stick to making dubstep for the rest of their lives.
The thing that I find a bit tedious isn't when people depart from the dubstep template and start doing something different instead, it's when they depart from dubstep and start doing something which if it had come from an established house producer any time in the last 15 years would get written off as adequate but blandly tasteful DJ fodder...

But its not supposed to resemble house. Those are comparisons you drew. Not the people making it.
Its slow ghettotech. Chicago minimal booty music at 140.
And the o.g. ghettotech producers love it. Rashad and Spinn think Addison Groove is the best thing to happen to the genre in years.
If the originators of the sound its based on like it, and you dont, you consider it might just, like, not be your thing?

Oh, we're we talking about Addison Groove? If people think they sound like bland house then yeah, people can shut up - they don't sound like house and they aren't bland...
I guess I was thinking more of the tracks you hear on radio shows that really do sound a bit like second string Force Tracks tunes. I couldn't really name any because I have enough trouble remembering the tracks that I did like, let alone the ones I didn't. I'm not in the bland house gestapo and I'm not going to be knocking on doors at 4am but you sometimes wonder whether they all just really like second string Force Tracks tunes or if some of them could realize their potential more if they loosened up a bit and worried a bit less about being tastefully on trend.

Also, 50% of new dubstep being put out nowawadays seems to be dark halfstep, perfected by Kryptic Mnds on "One of us" back in 2009. So yeah, I think your completely wrong. But to each their own.
There are only a few names that stand out for me in dubstep who are totally progressive: Old Apparatus and Objekt being two of them. And they also do 120-130 stuff most of the time now..so there you go.
1000x this. KM came out strong with that first album and single on Swamp, and even after their second album (The Fifth ) everything else I've heard in that style just falls short. It was to halfstep what 36 Chambers was to hardcore rap imo.

RE: the housey stuff, I feel kinda the same. Still hearing Addison Groove tunes that blow me away though, and Pearson Sound and Boddika are making some really exciting stuff. (love boddikas synths..)
And Blawan is just a weirdo.
A lot of it just seems to be 909s for the sake of 909s though.. yeah 4/4 open hihats are cool and all.. but come on.

can't really beat dub when it comes down to it!
but hopefully 2012 = the year genres stopped mattering at all
every sound is immersed in so many different influences these days. the 'nuum is a web more than a line and its hard to tell what sits exactly where sometimes. it's pretty awesome that a lot of producers & djs have tapped into that and are making/mixing a wide array of sounds. makes for better parties! i know there will still be purists and people with singular visions and thats awesome too, delve as deep into it as you can go and see what comes out! etc
