However I am a bit confused as to what you meant by fft filter. Did a quick google search and all I could come up with is the fact that it is a filtering algorithm, which isn't really helpful

This. There's really absolutely no need for anything above that range in your mid basses. really is wasted space, you do want your hats dominating that area tbh

a filter that works by the taking the fourier transform of a signal, processing the FT in the frequency domain, then taking the inverse fourier transform. like convolution, or most things with "spectrum"/"spectral" in the name.
some linear phase EQs process like this i think.
