you're equating one definition of zionism (the rastafarian one) with a completely different one (the one implemented at the moment by the israeli government). don't go and tell me "You can be a Zionist and not support its implementation by Israelis", when it's quite clear from the initial quote i called you on that the zionism you're on about is the one implemented by israelis these days.

big up for conveniently not adressing the fact that pretty much anyone being able to convert to rastafarism makes the rastafarian definitions of the concepts you invoke (zion, chosen people, promised land) completely different beasts :W:

this conversation isnt going anywhere though, so unless you have some hard cold facts demonstrating how rastafarism supports colonial zionism, lets leave it at that

:w:

Zionism has nothing to do with killing Palestinians. It has to do with the children of Israel returning to their birthright. A notion shared by both religions.

Again you're confusing implementation with concept.

Birthrights: the start of the problem right there.

Nobody is owed anything in life.

'Zionism' isn't what's going on in the Middle-East, it's the EXCUSE that is used by those in power to do it. Both the Rastafarian and Jewish concepts of the Chosen people returning to God's promised land are the same in both religions, they just have a different idea of who are the chosen people and what's the promised land.

agreed 100%, but seeing the word "zionist" was first thrown around in this conversation when talking about a funder of the us presidential election campaign, i was under the impression we were talking about zionism as an excuse to israel's current international policy, hence my formulation "zionism in its modern war-mongering, oppressive expression"

On an interesting and somewhat related side note:

I had no idea prior to reading "People Funny Boy" that there was is a historic Jewish population in Jamaica - came over with the Spanish, later sided with the Europeans during the slave revolts of the 19th c. (not so smart.) Chris Blackwell (Island Records founder) was half-Jewish on his mom's side; Sean Paul's granddad was also Jewish.

The Rastafari version is not based off any contact with these Jamaican Jews, however, but strictly from interpretive readings of the Bible.

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — A Key West resident who police say was distraught over the presidential election results and worried about his business has apparently killed himself.

Police say they found Henry Hamilton’s body in his bedroom Nov. 8, along with a living will with handwritten words “Do not revive! (expletive) Obama!” Two empty prescription empty pill bottles were in the dining room.

Hamilton’s partner Michael Cossey told Key West police he last saw Hamilton when they watched the election results together. According to the police report, Hamilton was upset and said, “If Barack gets re-elected, I’m not going to be around.”

Cossey says Hamilton was anxious about his tanning business. Police say Cossey found Hamilton’s body after returning home from a night of playing cards with friends.

Authorities do not suspect foul play.
