Yeah my copy of 4 was just about watchable - i've got 5-7 too, they were leaked from the review disc but got taken down as the numpty didn't remove the watermark on them.

A good copy of 4 should be in the torrents pretty soon i hope.

Damn, the look on Marlo's eyes after dropping him was the coldest thing I ever seen on tv... the guy who plays him is getting on a next level

That and McNulty sayin with obsessive eyes "We gotta kill again!", the best of the season so far

And Omar, as incohesive as he is with the rest of the show, is pure adrenaline everytime he appears on screen.

"Some Spiderman shit right here"

Okay, finally seen the first three episodes. I need to watch them again to make an assessment really, but I've been mostly impressed so far. Someone told me that the network are only giving them ten episodes this season so they have to pack everything it a bit more, is that true? It does seem like things are being given less time to develop now, although that could be a consequence of them having so many storylines going on at once. That's probably the only thing I've been disappointed with, its lent the narrative an air of surreality because things are happening without any explanation i.e. Herc working for Levy, Carver suddenly being such an authority, Sergei now being mates with Barksdale... and other characters have so far dissappeared (although I'm only 3 episodes in lol). I'm not really sold on the credibility of Lester going along with McNultys serial killer idea either...

However, plenty to love also. There's been some great comic scenes such as McNulty being the designated driver in the planned robbery. The newspaper storyline is interesting and obviously ties in with the representations of other corrupt hierarchies within the show. Also ties in with those other structures within the narrative- i.e. the selfishness of a single journalist can influence politics adversely. I'm not sure what the general stance towards power structures is in The Wire- simply rejecting them as inevitably restrictive and controlled by corrupt egotism of individuals within them? It's definitely not a blithely optimistic view of human nature/relations is it, although not simplistically negative either. The strength of the show for me has always resided in its refusal to oversimplify things on an artistic/moral level.

Seems like the darkest of the seasons so far to me, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it all ends horribly for most of the principal characters. Like others have said I'd like to see Marlow falling by the end of it, I just wonder if the writers will insist on pushing home the true horror and waste of that society and situation by letting him propser?

I'd also like to see Marlow's character being developed a little (of course this might already have happened for all I know)- he's one of the few characters in the show of that importance who seem really quite two dimensional.

Episode 4 has downloaded... anyone got a link for 5,6,7?
