martyn wrote:what are u lot on about????? ive seen most games, really dont think any of them were unwatchable cos of diving?? ofcourse theres players being gay on the pitch but i blame it more on the super high stakes in money and pressure in modern football as compared to the old days.

And "more former players should get involved" ?!? Look at the coaches of most national teams Van Basten, Hiddink, Donadoni etc etc theres plenty former players in todays football. (also loads in the premier league) + you dont even know what platini is in charge of?!

And about the old days, yes players got up and went ahead with the game, there were also plenty of broken backs, arms, legs and necks, im not sure if i'd enjoy the game more seeing someone break something on a regular basis?
sorry mate but they are some rather misguided views there.
yes there are super high stakes in football these days, thats certainly not an excuse. if they just concentraited on playing football instead of cheating they would reap more rewards.
yes plenty of former pros are coaches/managers, but they should be the ones who are totally running the game.
and no, i dont want to see the old days of nasty challenges and broken bones either. but just look at what they had to put up with, and todays players go on and act the way they do. i mean im sure you all remember rivaldo in the world cup a few years ago, the ball hit him on the leg and he threw himself down clutching his face and rolling around on the floor. AND THEN WAS STRETCHERED OFF!!
the points made in this thread are all valid issues that need to be addressed in the modern game, and if you think they are not then you have a bit of a misguided view of the sport

allthough it seems you may have just misunderstood whats been pointed out

Its funny, im watching sweden - greece and this is the first game imo where the amount of little fouls and exaggeration is getting to the annoying point (from both sides). Its understandable both supporter groups are booing the players.

Anyway my probably not so well-written point was that I do agree theres diving, schwalbes and exaggerating and whining, but its not like i cant watch the euro cup because of it.

Yeah i remember Rivaldo's trick, in the world of endless replays and youtube he just made a big fool out of himself doing that. And yeah can't say Rivaldo did many great things after that little stunt, as not many teams nor fans are interested in people as lame as that. Its the same thing as why referees all over the world hardly ever are in favour of C. Ronaldo, cos they all seen his shakespearian theatre, same for Robben.

.
its not just the euro 2008 im having a go at, my first rant in this thread came from years of mounting frustration at all the silly antics by rivaldo and ronaldo etc.

for me it really has got to that point where i dont know if i want to switch the game on and watch any more. i love the game of football, ive loved it since the first time i kicked a ball at pre school.

our "beautiful game" has become the ugly side of world sport for so many reasons, as i9 said before, i dont hate the game for it, i hate the people who constantly cheat, but hate the big wigs and fat cats even more for still allowing them to do so

I'm not sure they were booing because of that. I think it has more to do with the disgusting performance of greece.. never seen a team perform uglier football than them in a tournament.. quite delighted they lost.. almost thought they were gonna steal a point there..

spain looks well on point though.. brilliant performance!

i am a bit surprised at chelsea, i thought they'd go for a younger manager.

The swiss missed their chances when they were on top really.

swiss had no quality really, if they had hiddik in charge who knows lol.

im a little suprised that chelsea have got him seeing as he has no european league expierence whatsoever. im sure he'll do well but with the language barrier aswell i would be a little worried if i was a blue. could help carvalaho to stay also.

yeah, but gotta give credit to the czechs and swiss as well, both were wuite strong today..
switzerland-turkey could have gone either way in my opinion.. shame they missed that chance in the 84. min... never good when the host gets eliminated at an early stage..
