Hmmm... not quite all you said. Anyway...

...and dude, seriously, no trolling on here? Thats one of the funniest things you've written.

My apologies for feeding the troll again... I wish this person would sign in with their old screenname and personalitly though. That one was usually much more personable...

If smugness equates to posting rationally and with a strong opinion, then call me smug if you wish, it’s all interpretation anyway. As for 3rd wave ‘ska’ I said I didn’t like it, that was all. Funnily enough, people sometimes have different taste in music.

As for the influence of R&B and ska, that was in response to another post that mentioned a similarity and I agreed, I didn’t think it worth mentioning Mento in that context.

If you saw my original post in here, it was to post some youtube links of some of my favourite ska tunes, it was irrelevant who posted the thread. If you actually look back, it has been Blizzard who has been ‘stalking’ my comments. Check back if you wish.

And for your information, this is a forum, which normally involves discussion. I have seen no trolling since I’ve been here, you really need to lighten up and not take things so seriously. It’s only a forum.
Buddy,I am so easy breezy that if you were in my presence right now you'd think the air conditioner was blowing.

Additionally,I have been on this forum a lot longer than you.I have also had my own forums in the past.I think I am very aware of how they work.

And I also think discussion requires a certain amount of respect for other peoples' opinions.

And yes, there have been a few trolls on the board lately.

Honestly, you seem like you could be a cool guy if you weren't so ready to disprove people the minute thier opinions don't match yours.Yes I understand that people have different tastes,so no need to be condescending or sarcastic about it.In fact,I believe I agreed with you on quite a few things brought up in this thread. One being that modern R&B sucks. But millions of people love it.Who are we to say they are wrong? But you did come off to Kid Logic with a forceful opinion. And that is where this "discussion" subtly became something entirely different.

I was the first person to respond to this thread because I love Ska.Obviously not as much as Concept_,but still. And I went through and watched those vids because I like them too.I've sent a few of those out to friends as well.I also downloaded those mixes, because even though I have a good portion of it,it's nice to have a nice selection in one handy place.Honestly,I wasn't trying to have a go at you.And I suppose I was being a bit of a prik myself.

So.I can admit to a little prikishness on my part. And I apologise for accusing you of trolling(I've had to deal with at least two in the last month). So I say,why not just carry on as two cats who love good music? And girls in checks. And old Ska and R&B.And Dubstep. And girls in checks.

2tone handshake? :D

I'd have said R&B was the foundation and mento fused with / heavily influenced it, in the sense that as afaict people went from playing US R&B on the systems to JA R&B to ska via a fairly continuous evolution. Maybe mento ended up being the dominant part of the sound, but that kind of argument is hard to take anywhere really - "this tune is 58% ska, 39% mento and 3% tuuvan throat singing" or whatever.

Yeah, but I'm talking about the evolution of the sound, not what was there first. It's like if I make a jazz influenced dubstep record it's still founded on dubstep with a jazz influence even though jazz was there a long time before dubstep. From the stuff I've heard, it's a lot easier to pick a series of records that start off as RnB and show a gradually increasing mento influence than vice versa...

Yeah, to be honest a better question would be 'is it wrong to not like ska'.

Dude...you act like I don't get you.I do.And I totally agree.

But we are not like the status quo when talking about music, correct?

While the general populace may only be able to hear the heavy overtones of a finalised product,it doesn't deny the fact that everything has foundations and interim precursors, which are all part of the evolution.

I mean, why bother to talk about Rocksteady then at all?Why not just go straight from Ska to Reggae?Or say,in the case of Dubstep,House to Dubstep without mentioning Dub,Techno,DnB,or 2step/UK Garage?Evolution in music is important. And it's important to some of us to respect the beginnings, the experimentation of the middle, and the final sound, before it evolves again or becomes hybrid.

There are always missing links the general public won't see because music is a generalised,Laymans thing to them.Luckily there are people like you, myself,Donkey,Kid Logic, and loads of others on this board who can appreciate what the average listener normally wouldn't. 8)
