it wasn't a great present to get home and find that it had been shut down...
Lucky for me I share mine with DMZ!
My 18th birthday was my first DMZ event which was the 1st Birthday!

True, I mean we all waste hours on here everyday so they should too right? What is the point of looking at this as some kind of power trip? These people are giving their free time to do this and being bombarded with drivel from people all over the globe might make you want to chuck in the towel every now and again, that's even before you take the insanity that the OFFICIAL DUBSTEP AWARDS BY DUBSTEP FORUM & NME (SPONSORED BY NESTLE, RAYTHEON AND CITIGROUP) in to account.
Is this place free? Has this place helped you discover new music? Has this place helped you make friends the world over? Has this place helped your DJing career? No, you're right actually, it's here so Mike and Ken can lord it over us and make us feel small and pathetic. How could anyone have known how big this place would become? Would Dubway have set it up if he knew that he was going to have to juggle a Physics degree and administering a 20,000 user forum? It's really easy for people who spend all day wasting time at work on here to get pissy but if you don't have so much free time and you're having to sort through 1000's of posts and PM's every week then it's very different. Being a mod here is the definition of 'Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't'.
Finally, if people can't do without this place for less than two days then they really really really need to get out more.

I largely agree abt the shift in mood on the forum and the visitors it has attracted in the last year esp. but I'm afraid that's what's happened to the music and the forum is just reflecting that.
An elitist attitude and token power moves are not gona help.

whey... DSF is back!
Can't believe how pissy some people get over a forum... There is more to life, Go outside
Anyways for whatever reason it got closed, so be it. Personally I'm glad to see it back but like when dubplate.net forum went, we got over it!
I've been with DSF since day 1. I might not contribute as much as I did but one thing I didn't agree with was the fact that the forum was taken down completely. if you're gonna take it down again guys, just lock it so nobody can post or register anymore... Surely you can at least leave the forum up as a resource for the sake of all the good contributions the users have put in... I also think an announcement before taking it down with an explanation would have been courteous, but hay its happened and its now back
Happy 3rd Birthday anyways, big up Dubway you are a soldier!
Bun your 3rd Birthday mix is superb... excellent selection & mixing bro

the forum has been offline for about 8 days in 3 years. thats 8 out of 1095. websites 10 times as big as ours don't have that kind of record, and we're all volunteers here. unpaid.

Being a mod here is the definition of 'Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't'.
Finally, if people can't do without this place for less than two days then they really really really need to get out more.
it's funny, because i mentioned to two mods that i had personal convos with about this, that they were 'Damned if you do, damned if you don't'.
i think it's easy to try and say that those of us who take issue with HOW this went down just have no idea what the dubway or the mods deal with. if that makes you feel better about the criticism, then so be it. but i think it's just that: a weak attempt to try and paint those critiques as meritless because they lack an appreciation for the "job" that mods have, when no one is actually dissing the day to day operation of this forum, but rather the actions that have been taken with the shutdown.
i have always said (even to the naysayers) that i thought things generally are pretty chill, and the rules reasonable. i have done my best to help mods out if i saw a post with p2p links or whatnot, because i KNOW they have lives and can't always catch that stuff. there have been times when i have questioned decisions made, but that's bound to happen, and i don't lose any sleep over it, really.
my issue is with how this whole thing went down, and the flippant manner in which it was done. "oh and by the way, the forum is closed. indefinitely." and then we are supposed to come back and kiss people's asses for that? whatever. because no matter how you slice it, it still points to the underlying understanding that this "community" is here at someone else's pleasure. and now the understanding is there that it can be gone at the drop of a hat if we don't straighten up and fly right.
talk about divisive.
i am 36 years old and i don't need a daddy, thanks. i am an adult and can be dealt with on that level. this wasn't the action of an adult. this was a childish move.
trust me, i have seen some of the nastiness that has been chucked around lately, and i am one of the ones who has been really frustrated with the childishness of some of the members on here too. i don't wish having to deal with that shit on anyone and i do sympathize with the mods (more so than you seem to think i do). but if this is a community, then we are capable of telling the shitheads to go fuck themselves, just as surely as the mods can (short of banning of course). there is something to be said for that. but instead of working WITH us, this turned into an us vs them thing (both with the closing AND reactions like yours that assume that we are all just lazy internet trolls who don't care about what this forum means or how it is run).
this is either a community, or it's not. right now it doesn't feel much like one.
and as far as the (general) argument that we shouldn't get all up in arms about this because it's just a forum and we should all get out more, well...which do you want? it's either the cornerstone of the international dubstep scene that we should all appreciate or it could be gone tomorrow, or it's just the internet so none of us should care at all and shouldn't be pissed. pick one.

What is it exactly you are trying to imply

Probably that you're a whinging opportunist, who with every complaint you write on this forum sniffs of taking baby steps to scheming your way to launch the online version of dubstep's GMTV
Toys back in the pram bruv. You write like you're owed something.

My point was that it was less than two days, at the beginning of the week, not that it's just the internet.

i know, i was actually referring more to some comments from others. hence the "general" argument part.

I am not owed anything, I just am a very opinionated person who speaks the truth, none of this bullshit suck up.
