See, just to elaborate on what everybody else was previously saying... They only gave me 5 grand in my college assignment back when I did ND.

I was actually going to say this earlier but i didnt actually think anyone would be sad enough to pretend that they had 30,000 to spend on a studio just to impress an online forum community. I did a very similar project at college as well which is why it broght it to my attention.

Rendr - If you have done this you really are a fucking sad act mate! A true forum fanny!

My advice is don't waste your money. People have made good tunes on no money. No offence but spending 30k on anything is just a tad senseless.

IMHO the most important aspects of a studio to be addressed first are the monitoring chain. Get a great pair of monitors and a top of the line AD/DA. Room treatment is especially important or the money dropped on monitoring will be useless. You have to hear your material as clearly as possible or your decision making will be skewed due to battling room nodes, hyped speakers, and poor conversion.

After your monitor chain is solid, then move onto compressors, EQ, and pre-amps. Synths and outboard effects are an endless investment. If you end up with a ton of outboard stuff, you will need a patchbay and/or mixing board, midi interface etc. This is a long and expensive path if you are going to get lots of outboard gear.

Stick with a solid monitor chain as I suggested, then you can more properly decide which gear works for the music you want to make.

For monitors, check out Focal Twins, Genelec 8040, or K&H
For conversion look at Aurora, Apogee, or Prism

i dont know if it's just me, but something that's always helped my creativity is my lack of cash and therefore limited technology. for example i started making tunes on an old mc303, then when i mastered that i moved on to reason, and then ableton. whenever i went into the studio at uni and was working with pro-tools and thousands of pounds worth of equipment, i didn't know where to start. there was just so much advanced shit at my fingertips that everything i made sounded like if simon cowell made techno. what i'm trying to say is that £30,000 can make anyone sound like a pro, but the raw shit that's worth listening to comes from the heart. spend your money on strippers, drugs and a heavy soundsystem. if you really need to add something to your setup to progress your music, buy it, but don't squander it all at once because you will regret it.

Trust me on this - All you need is a apple G5 (2k) a pair of mackie 824's (1k) a copy of Logic 8 (200 quid) and the waves mercury bundle (5k) but you can get that for free by typing 'waves mercury torrent' in google.

Invest the rest in Gold stocks and ill take a 10% cut for the advice.

You can also get some 1500 free dubstep loops and samples here:

Fair do's, my glaswegian skag head hat goes off you go to you - spend your 30 g's then you obviously have a good idea in your head of what your wanting to spend it on. Hope the big move to Berlin runs smoothly wee man. in regards to defending myself over the "shit piss easy coursework" i did i'm really not going to even delve into that argument because its pathetic - especially when the argument is with a guy who slags other peoples tunes then gets himself into bother on the regz over dubstepforum for his silly ill informed theories on music production then challenges people to tune fights and loses them.

As i said before Rendr - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkmnxrcqKjw

Now off you go and wank your money on a studio you cheeky little twat, maybe once thats done you might start realising that most of the bollocks that has ever been spouted from your head in regards to production is in fact a total load of shit and in reality you know fuck all and are just another young guy with a bit of cash at his disposal getting ahead of himself. Give it another few years when you start realising that people are making sick tunes from their bedroom spending a fraction of what you did then you might appreciate that you had the chance to make a real investment but fucked it up.

I genuinely do hope i'm wrong, it would be really good to hear that your investment had paid off and that you were making something of it but until then pal your just a wee plebby gobshite with a pipe dream. x

Here you go Rendr,

Collage.
A technique of composing a work of art by pasting on a single surface various materials not normally associated with one another.

College.
An institution of higher learning.

Learn to at least spell before you start slagging off people calling them tramps and Glaswegian skag heads. Who cares where you go, its all to get a fucking piece of paper anyways, you're a mug mate you obviously can't be that well educated if you can't even get that one right. Should we re-teach you the alphabet and how to use the toilet properly while we're at it? Stop being a fucking child and let this thread die.

This is true, I'm on a music tech course but I know that having that piece of paper means jack shit essentially, doesn't matter what road your on in life as long as you get to where you want thats all that matters right?
