Wolf of Wall Street.

It dragged on for a bit too much. So the whole thing just got tedious for me by the last half hour, didnt even care who got busted and who didnt tbh. Also, more Matthew McGhonuouogey was needed imo. But i gotta say, Di Caprio killed it, genuinely great performance. Hes choosing more interesting roles nowadays, that django role was great too

Edit: lol i forgot he also recently did gatsby didnt he, that was just a typical role again :?

Finally got round to watch this last night, been meaning to watch it for ages, really enjoyed it. The sequels both look really good too.

Short Term 12 (2013)

Heartwarming and heartbreaking tale of a woman's experience working in a group home. Very well made, but could've hit harder. The director's obviously one to look out for in future though.

My girl and I went halves on a boxset of all his movies a year ago... we made it about halfway through before running out of steam and so far all of them have been wack as fuck. I get the impression that Jungle Fever might've once been a relevant movie, but yeah... he's a bit of a relic.

Malcolm X is still great though.

Agreed. Definitely watch the two sequels if you enjoyed the first one.

I shouldn't have mentioned how bad spike lee is. because, however bad his work is and how little scrutiny it can take, there still was very few alternatives. It's probably the same thing as with bob marley or scorsese, except scorsese is still blinding people with expensive lighting and playboys today.

I believe it rode a bit on the coat-tails of that stevie track tbh.
But it's not unwatchable.
I seem to recall that spike lee made an ok film about radio tbf, but not sure.

I mean in the context of (mostly american tbf) society - the press and in the general consensus/ opinion... We always tend to have to strap on these badges, like voice of the people, voice of a generation etc, to make sence of it all.
In the case of finding a black voice in hollywood it was probably between John Singleton and Spike Lee. But the fact that they are bad directors and doesn't deserve the spotlight, it doesn't retract from the fact that we still respect the notion of listening to the voices of this and that, so he is still in demand despite not being entertaining - like with Eminem, Ronda Rousey or Birdman (nba).

I can only come up with Mario Van Peebles if I were to mention a black rebel in film, which shows how racist that whole 'scene' is. Which is silly to say, I know.

Do The Right Thing is all right, but Spike Lee can't act if his life depended on it. Should have cast someone else for the lead.

Watched Brian De Palma's Mission to Mars. Absolute gash, was sort of heralded as the 'Gravity' of its time (2000) but it has nothing going for it...at all. It has no identity and just seems pointless ripping from 2001.

Has there actually ever been a good movie dealing with Mars besides maybe Total Recall?

He Got Game

Good Spike Lee film, his strongest work aside from Malcom X IMO.

Stranded isn't bad, though there are a couple of elastic science moments of them doing stuff that wouldn't be possible (like a real time conversation between Earth and Mars)
