Does that mean the whole free radical ageing theory has been disproved now? Or just antioxidants aren't what they say on the tin?
Edit: Wikipedia says this - Nonetheless, some recent studies tend to show that antioxidant therapy have no effect and can even increase mortality [19][20][21][22][23][24]
New study tings.

something along the way of what you said in your edit pikey
and now parson will come in saying: you seem to think you've somehow convinced me to give up antioxidants because you've met your mean mother?

Sorry, are you a nutritionist?
That's the second time in 2 pages you have spouted a load of unsubstantiated rubbish.
Please google or at least find a source for your madman claims b4 u randomly post here contradicting decades worth of scientific knowledge. The thread was going quite good up until then.
FYI on Potatoes:
A medium-sized 150 g (5.3 oz) potato with the skin provides 27 mg of vitamin C (45% of the Daily Value (DV)), 620 mg of potassium (18% of DV), 0.2 mg vitamin B6 (10% of DV) and trace amounts of thiamin, riboflavin, folate, niacin, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. The fiber content of a potato with skin (2 g) is equivalent to that of many whole grain breads, pastas, and cereals.
Nutritionally, the potato is best known for its carbohydrate content (approximately 26 grams in a medium potato).

They also pretty much kept the whole of Ireland alive for centuries.

i repent for the potato bit if true, i heard/read it from about 3 different nutritionists
yet it seems it's mostly in the skin (it's the case with a lot of fruits and veggies), who eats that? when baked it's ruined
potato by itself might keep you alive for a while, but will never keep you really healthy, i'm 93,67% sure of that. the point here is not to survive, but to improve
as for the shit on antioxidants - was just asking people to confirm shit, no claim, chill winston and learn to read!

Really, who were they? I'd be checking their credentials if I were you.

The potato has been the most important food stuff in Europe since we brought them over from America in the 1500s... compared to the other main staples in this area of the world (pasta and increasingly rice), they contain an awful lot of vitamins and minerals.
Skin contains most of the fibre, but the rest is fairly evenly spread, I think.
Some potato propoganda to redress the balance, I know we like pretty pictures with numbers on, nutrition for a 175g serving of boiled new potatoes:

Without turning this into 'The Potatoe Thread'... surely you are "improving" by eating pototoes
instead of more processed/artificial/refined alternatives?

this is what i call an argument, thanks magma (i guess it's my first opportunity to say that) as i love my potatoes too, just felt like i was doing it just to serve some sensorial pleasures
i'm glad to say sorry for posting incorrect stuff, excuse me for making a mistake, i know normally that never happens here, hence the rabid intolerance of dreamizm

Everyone's a nutritionist. It's not a recognized profession so you don't have to be qualified. Often 'nutritionists' buy themselves doctorates to look in the know. Gillian McKieth is probably the best known example (in th UK atleast).
Have any of you read any of Ben Goldacre's stuff? It's really good and I advise you do, it's informative and humorous at the same time.....
Here's a search for antioxidants on Bad Science (his site).
