So yes, I would mind if somebody else just posted it on here.
I can't stop people from sharing it, as it is possible with every tune (free, bought, hacked), I know...

Is it stupid?
Is it pathetic?
Naive?
Or is it okay?
This is my personal opinion - please dont take offence! I think that seeing as how you went ahead and used Timberlake's voice without his permission (yes?), then really you should not get precious about trying to retain your own control over the song. If Timberlake (or his record company) wanted to be real bastards about it, they could have come down on you like a ton of bricks and sued you for breach of copyright.

I think if you let people upload it if they want (what is essentially a pirated song anyway) then the benefit to you in the long run will be greater. Your name will be better known, and you wont be percieved as someone who "pulls the ladder up behind them" (i.e. - "its ok for me to pirate someone else's work, but once my work gains a bit of recognition, nobody else can do the same to me").

This forum has a good attitude and atmosphere of people contributing and sharing tracks. I think you should encourage/respect that and allow people to up it if they want to.

If you make a song that is entirely your own material, without any commercial samples or acapella on it, then that is a different matter. In that case, you should always have the control over what is done with it or when & where it is published.

So, if you do a bootleg remix, you're not allowed to make it exclusive? [edit] (Not ment as a reference to this tune, but in generel....)

As I wrote. I gave this remix away for free for a certain amount of time. I don't anymore. Reason why I won't be posting it, is because it is a bootleg and the tune is coming out, non-bootleg, as original material later this year.

But the tune is not hard to come by in the bootleg form and as said before I can't stop sharing in the world (and I wouldn't want to!!).
Here is some of the links I found on the 2 first pages of google searching: "Justin Ruf Remix"

[EDIT EDIT] :)

I feel like I have to explain myself even more now.

First off.
I didn't do this freakin remix to get attention on the internet!!

I did it because I love the original tune and it's just too RnBish and too slow to play in a dubstep/grime set. Did the remix, didn't use much of the original song, but you can recognise it. Played it at gigs and it worked really well....

So I posted it.
I had my thoughts, 'cause it was a freakin pop, Timberlake tune! And some people in here are quite purists... well ment... :D
If you read this thread from the start you'll get an idea of what peoples thoughts was in the beginning. A lot of minds changed when they actually took time to listen to the damn tune.

So the tune spread and it's all good. I've got feedback from most of Europe, UK and a lot from the US and Canada. Yes, it's amazing, but should that be a reason for me not to upload the bootleg tune again?
I don't think so. If people want it, they can find it. What's the problem?

And as writing 10 times now, the tune has been re-done with new original vocals, without Justin, and has become a much more complex, better IMO, tune.

The old bootleg was free from me for a while.
It is no more. It's still on the net.

i just posted the DL links for ya!

That's all...

Cheers,
JSL

I downloaded it earlier. Not my thing I'm afraid! No personal offence meant, I'm just not into the sound.

The difficulty for yourself is that you might always be known as "the guy who did the Timberlake dubstep remix" :!:

But in response to the earlier point - I dont think you should stop people posting links or uploading here in this forum. If anything I think you should be asking people who upload it on sites with shitloads of crap ads like one of the ones above. Just my humble opinion...

Got to get back to work, might reply more later[/i]

It's still up to the producer whether he shares it or not. Even if it's being fileshared to just post the tune on a public forum without the producers knowledge or consent is taking the piss.

Quite liked the remix, ok with the original. Some people just hate anything that charts

Well, I disagree with that if its a bootleg with a pirated sample. Then I think it should be in the public domain. We'll have to agree to disagree on that I'd say.

I dont hate anything that charts. Amy Winehouse is brilliant.

didden't mean to upset there man. i was bieng a smart ass but i obviously like the tune. i think it was a good idea. i actually like justin timberlake as well. i'm really not much of a purist if thats how you take me. i actually would do a beyonce' remix. whatever works i say. i was mostly just suprised that a justin timberlake remix was getting so much attention on here. and intrnet attention is nothing to scoff at my friend. if it wern't for the internet, lots of people wouldn't know what dubstep is. and people like me who live in fucking cleveland ohio would have no connection to the scene.

My take is props to JSL for making that remix and props for putting it up for everyone to download the first time around.
The tune is pretty sick.
If he is trying to make some cheddar off of a version without the vocal so what?
He put in the time making the tune.
I think 99% of the new producers on this board are going to do the same thing when they know their tunes are good enough to start paying the bills.
Nothing wrong with that.
My only gripe is when they don't put the mp3 version out at the same time as the vinyl.

Ah wasn't referring to you, was talking about the general hating in the thread. And yes the Winehouse is good.

I think regardless of general public domain, it's a breach of etiquette on the forum to re-up a tune without permission, that the producer no longer wishes to distribute , regardless of whether that contains illegal samples or whether it may already be in circulation of filesharing networks.

If I put a tune up for free download, that's generally limited to a time period or an amount of downloads. If I choose to re-up it, that's down to me, not someone else's decision. To my mind it's the same decision as allowing someone to sleep on your sofa and then finding they've invited their friends round too. There's a big difference between sharing and having people help themselves.

Just the way I'd do it, others may think otherwise.
