going to have to take this stance right here.

why does dance music have to be so disposable? what's wrong with playing/listening to tunes just because they're old?
thats what he's saying

I appreciate the positive question ‘why does dance music have to be disposable’, but the fact is, it is.

you mean it is for you. if i listen to ANY type of music on repeat it will start to lose it's flavor, but if i really like the tune and i let it sit for a while it will sound fresh again. maybe it's different for me here in the states because i don't know a single other person who likes "dubstep" beyond rusko, borgore, etc. so i've never heard any of this music out in the club nor will i ever probably.

of course i love to hear new stuff, but i guess i never noticed an expiration date on my records.

i see what you are getting at, i suppose it's just a question of your own level of tolerance?? Nice to be able to have an interesting discussion on here for once.

edit* also like the situations where you pick something up having never heard of the artist/title and being completely blown away, so i suppose i'm being a bit silly about it and @ clairvoyeur that would get so annoying

i just think there's a difference between music being over-saturated and disposable. there's plenty of disposable music, and not just in the dance music scene (although dance music has more of a predilection towards it) and you hear it all the time on rock or hip hop radio.

i could batter my copy of Loveless or Remain in Light or London Calling or whatever classic album day after day and pretty soon i'm going to get sick of that too and want to hear something new. that doesn't make the music disposable, it just makes it over-played and I think there's a big difference. I agree with what you said earlier deamonds about being more excited buying a 12" that hasn't been beaten to death, but as i mentioned I think i have a different perspective by living on the other side of the globe so maybe i just can't empathize. i guess i have the totally opposite problem... i'd kill to have a night to go out and hear this tune (or any other ones that have been "rinsed to death") played.

It comes from soundsystem culture, not electronic music as such.

if your system is playing old records and a rival sound has fresher, new dubs - you're not getting any gigs.

i don't think it's as cut and shut as that anymore, as the internet age has put a stop to actually having to go down to the dance to hear plates, so i think that's kinda moot. Agree with what you said about location aswell, spot on.

lets face it, if it wasnt for youtube clairvoyeur, you wouldnt of heard that unless a. oneman or someone whos got it plays in your area, or b. it get's released and is a complete new find for you.

ALL THE INFORMATION isnt always ideal come to think of it!

Agreed , and listeners seem to think they have a right to have the tunes within 1 week of hearing it on line and get bitchy if lables dont drop it within a month -w-

It's called 'Sicko Cell'

it's obviously Joy O (or a very big Joy O copycat). Listen to BB/Ladywell on Doldrums and it should be obvious...

(Edited the bit about release date since Jackmaster cleared that up below!)

Re:release it's SWAMP014 and we're currently at SWAMP008... even if they release very quickly (ie once every 3 weeks) you're still looking at 18 weeks aka june/july.

i can understand that, but isn't the point of a label to RELEASE music, as opposed to smirking at us collectively for 2/3 of a year and then calling us impatient?

Do you honestly believethey are "smirking" at you? Releasing 12's is not a simple thing
