I think just looking at the dubstep releases this week theres a huge diverse range between the sounds of the producers i dont think its formulaic.
But then i have no idea who this other guy your talking about is j_j, does he also produce dubstep under the name zomby??

labour of love i suppose. i ask as i dug out the bingo mix for the car yesterday and it reminded me how it took me a while to get into it, but it moved in so many directions, all underpinned by the bass. nice variety that mix has

best thread EVAR.
I dont give a fuck if im biting someone. I make music for myself, not to please and/impress anyone. if labels like it and people play it out/skank to it, then thats fucking dope. Just means they feel my original vision.

wasnt it .and the bass had to much to offer as a foundation.a million ways to move on it and lads were moving on it differently and new styles were popping up a lot.grime and dubstep all had this same thing in common and now as grime is a dirty word lads seem forced to make typical 'dubstep' and ask on the forum where to place a snare.

interesting. I speak as someone who hasn't been to FWD in about 2-3 years (apart from The End party last summer). I ONLY went when it was a monthly Thursday ting, and the entire scene was chattin in the bar while 20 peeps were on the dancefloor. This new weekly Friday ramout ting is totally alien to me.
With regards to the bookings made by FWD - at the end of the day I feel it's up to a promoter who gets booked, and even if you're the flagship nite for a burgeoning scene you should feel no pressure to book anyone ither than the acts you like/feel. SLT used to be residents don't forget, and I know S&D have played at least once. Also, Appleblim, Headhunter, Caspa, Distinx, Pinch, have all repped recently if you want new names.
There was a massive thread on the old dubplate.net forum years back about how 'breaky' wasn't repped at FWD, peeps demanding to know when Vex'd or Hot Flush would get their debut set. Peeps were gettin proper wound up about it, but like I say, it's not FWD's responsibility to book DJs that other people think they should. IMO.
yeah, i agree, my point wasn't that fwd>> shld book anyone they don't feel to. they have a business to run and accounts to fix up etc etc, so it's all good. or yup they might just not be feeling anyone other than those they book. it was more abt the general effect of the fwd>> 'rota', as it were, on the way that dubstep (not totally but in places) has stagnated a bit in terms of style.
true bristol have been repping more lately, tho this has taken a while, and whilst slt were residents and S&D have played down there, this was a while back. also geeneus' sets of late have really been abt dubstep by numbers rather than the more varied stuff he used to go on with. I'm not really sure what my point is, actually - prob just that I used to enjoy the unexpectedness/challenging bits of fwd, and now i don't really get that other than when kode9 or poss pinch play.
yes!! kode 9 and others used to play a huge mix of grime to dubstep and back again and it was interesting as hell, now the 'drop' formula has kinda took over again and certain points of the scene that were interesting have now become generic as fuck and seem to support anyone in that mould.
dubstep in 2004 was so orig in its sound and ideas and now were really lookign at it going jazzy or 'intelligent'.or lads just bite whats existin and think thats dubstep.which is more prevalent now.
Perhaps focussing on solely what the fwd>> camp are doing isn't the right thing then. There are plety of new and established producers who taking the sound and moving forward. Pinch, TRG, Skream, Ramadanman, Benga and Mala. I don't go to FWD>> anymore because the weekly has taken away the excitement and allure of something special and a lot of the sets are dancefloor rinseouts back to back. but there are sooo many night sprouting up that are really doing things.
def it's all moving fwd elsewhere, i think prob with or without fwd>>. or fwd>> will just be one version of it, from a particular point in time. tbh, (and bear in mind i'm in london so all my ref points are there) red star was my saving grace for a few months there, and i hope corsica is the same (judging by the first one it's all good). i'm not so jaded just yet, just feel the fwd>> loss a bit, particularly w the likes of geeneus...
Ahhh, I'm in bristol, so it's unlikely I am going to come to night unless it's gonna bring some next party and tunes. otherwise I can get all the varience I want from Bristol! I'm screwing I never got to go to Redstar, that seemed to be really doing different things. they do need to bring back Grime though, with Grime seemingly going quiet for a bit and Dubstep taking the limelight, it's getting fucking hard to actually find Grime nights! I want to kick something off in Bristol, but funds, councils and police are all obstacles I don't know I can get round.

In my experience, bitin is inevitable, every genre that ever was expanded through the very same process of innovate>assimilate>mutate. It makes for bare derivatives but what you gonna do? It's not like dubstep is reinventing the wheel. No point gettin aggro about it.
