all my "minimal wave" (for lack of a better term) friends have their own cassettes that indy labels produce for them to sell @ shows.
it's a popular method for the "alternative" crowd, but I couldn't really imagine what the average show goer would use a cassette for.
rather than it just being a way to support an artist.
But I must say I would love it if there was a label that released long DJ mixes on cassette.
it used to be back in the day (according to my older/wiser friends) you'd give a DJ a cassette at the start of their set,
and they would be recording their show live, then you take it home and enjoy that set...\

Phigure is here to say obvious shite and act like a tnuc/
No average show goer has a fucking tape deck anymore, in the land of ipods and iphones, and laptops, and serato.

I buy tapes when I want to support a band at that $5 level, and I like tapes for some kinds of music.
But I honestly believe VInyl will be my favorite listening format forever.

I'm a little confused at some of the stuff I see getting released on cassette that's all pristine nice clean production. Seems like putting that stuff on cassette is completely pointless.

I mean there's loads of stuff that fits the cassette sound. Very clean plinky plonky sounding electronic stuff is not it though

Oh yeah and saying no-one has tape machines is only half true. They're not so common anymore but I for one own a couple and loads of tapes.

Anyone seen the diy mixtapes?
Printable cassettes that have a usb connection.
They can take up to 2gb.
Plus you don't need a tape player because they double as an mp3 player.
I know it defeats the purpose considering no head being used by the player but still a clever idea.
