Pots n pans dnb is still huge around Russia. Like sports dome huge, there's some insane events.
Evol intent makes moombastuff now, and Teebee of Subtitles makes tech house now haha.
'BCUK Presents' has been releasing some sort of interesting dnb, I think it's just Maldini now? dBridge is still pumping out great tracks on his own, and the whole Autonomic thing.
The late 90s - around 2005 BCUK and Renegade Hardware type stuff was the peak of the hard and dark dnb I think. Then it just got too crazy with all the bait SAW samples and tempos approaching 200bpm etc, turned into self parody.

Honestly - I wanted to be Jean Michel Baquiat.
- not specifically - I was into painting, but I wasn't necessarily doing graffiti type stuff...
I thought that by like 26 - I would have a big loft in NY and be doing my thing...
- dancing at night - every night - all the time
I wanted turntables from the age of about 17 and I finally got them at...age 23.

the 50's in the 70's - pure dope
...I even called Leo Castelli when I was like - 16 - to ask what I had to do in order to work there...
...they said go to college...

To make music wasn't really an option for me back in the late 80's...
The rave scene didn't exist yet - personal computers weren't common
We didn't even have cellphones - let alone music software...
One major thing that I think kept Europe - London especially...
So far ahead in the music game - was the ubiquity of recording studios...
I have always understood that in the UK - music as a hobby - an elevated one
...has been around a lot longer - the DIY - artistic freedom in ownership type thing
I'm guessing - that everyone wanted to be a Beatle...
The US has - historically - relied on the "industry" for access to producing - mastering - distribution
insiders club...
I want to say not so much anymore - but in some ways it still is..
radio is owned - distribution is niche - production is niche...
How many american dance labels get their stuff mastered and pressed in the UK?
I bet a lot...

And the club scene - in America ...here is the problem
When there is a lot of money to be made - businesses cater to the tastes of the masses...
and the masses here - are informed by television...
and we all know how MTV changed a number of years ago and has just been pushing garbage...
Maybe this is true in other countries as well - But Europeans, the masses, seem to have better taste in general...
Is this true or is this just me romanticizing Europeans...
maybe they are just better drunks and are captively indoctrinated...
...you guys spend more time in the pub than watching television...?

MTV Europe was amazing from what I remember, especially the coverage of the festival season.

I'm not, it was like what MTV2 was in the early days, it played a wide range of music videos both mainstream and underground alternative and had some great indepth interviews.
