I used to use the passive before I upgraded to my K&H o300's.

I quite like them, bit more to the midrange than KRK stuff, I've got mine still in my room just for listening to music on and still sound great, if money could afford the yamaha HS80's would be a nice idea but if you can't then I would go for the Alesis in that price range

I have the powered ones atm, in my oppinion they're fine, although because of the way I have them set up/my untreated room I think they exaggerate the bass a little. Also true low end starts to trail off pretty quickly, but that's down to the size of the monitor. All in all I think they're good for producing, once you "learn" how they sound.

I used a studio for 2 year a couple times a week that had these next to some mackies and after a short while they weren't even worth referencing to, i hated em! i thought they were a pile of shit! Then a friend of mine that easily has the highest level of dance/heavy bass music mixdowns i know, told me he had a pair of these… i couldn't believe it! It just goes to show, learn ya room, learn ya speakers.

They are technically not good monitors, but I've heard quite a few people say.. decent for the price.
Wouldn't do Apogee converters justice I think, but that's never a bad choice really.
You can always upgrade monitors and keep that converter.

they're probably more accurate and easier to work on than 50% of the stuff out there that costs twice as much. They aren't amazing, they won't make you love the music, you'll have to work for your midrange but overall-- decent tools.

Equator D5s. I haven't worked on the Eris in a room I know...but I have a hard time believing they would live up to what Equator offers in there D series ...

Curious why you say they arent good? always good to know the bad side of things as well. I see tons of people have the krks.

Your thoughts on these vs krk?

I have limited funds so 300-400 is what ill spend on monitors haha

ive definitely been reading alesis vs krk and everyone says krk are better haha damn. But I dont know anything about good sounding stuff. people complain about the mids on the alesis.

but if its just a matter of getting used to them and how they translate, i can live with that.

I guess what I should ask is, is it possible to get good sounding stuff from them evetually haha? but thats been answered with that friend that made sick mixdowns.I guess its just preference and how you work them

Get D5's dude! Not Eris.

Listened to eris in a store, not as bad as rokits but there was A LOT of bass, boomy. Not flat!
Otherwise they're probably alright though.
I listened to the d5s as well and they are way better.
Get d5's if you can, way better than eris.
Though D5s cost fucking much in europe but if you can get them for us prices go for it.
I got Yamaha MSp5a's, really happy with them.

Yes, low end in those are not to trust imo.
I'm no pro but when listening to them in comparison to many other monitors even I could hear that.
