The US already invested up to 5 billion dollars into Ukraine. Ukraine is right at Russia's doorstep and Russia is emerging with China as a rival to the American empire, intending to issue a new, gold standard, currency that is supposed to rival the US dollar.

I can't find my sources now, but I believe that American gov officials had been quoted that they're hoping to have American military bases on Ukrainian soil.
