Agreed. Wilder was waaaaaaay creepier than Depp. Much closer to what I imagined the Wonka from the book to be like.

Anyway, I watched 'Before The Devil Knows You're Dead' today. Total waste of time. Genuinely bemused to see it make so many critic's top ten lists - I really thought it was a misfire on almost every level. Not even Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance or Marisa Tomei's breasts could save it!

I liked how depp did a completely diffrent wonka then the wilder one though.

I enjoyed Todd a lot actually, a lot more then i thought i would given that i really fucking loathe musicals... I guess i'm just too much of a depp/burton fan to not like it?

Also the cast is just amazing, I loves sacha gabors character. (allthough it did remind me of borat just a little bit too much)

In the last week
I saw 3:10 to Yuma- good performances and a good build up to some of the worst male bonding bullshit my stomach ever had to suffer.

Cloverfield- The fucking job although I was firmly on the side of the creature. A bit like Friends meets Cuthulu downtown. I would of left that guy Rob to rot btw.

The Eagle V's The Shark. Comes across like a New Zealand version of Napolean Dynamite. Not on the same level but definately has its moments.

Surfs Up. One to watch with the kids, actually pretty entertaining. Interview scenes reminded me of the old creature comforts adverts by Ardman.

Shooter. Definitely sick

Heat. Very good, the build up too where they both 1st meet is inspiring.

This is England. Quality, excellent storyline i thought.

Started watching Charlie Wilson's War...was originally put off by Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, but it seems like a good film so far.

Over the weekend I saw

Le Appartment - slick, well directed and plotted Noir film... Vincent Cassell excellent, haven't seen him in anything except La Haine before


Ratatouille - really enjoyable and funny I thought, not the greatest story in the world but the artistic achievment of the animation/direction more than made up for that


The Lives of Others- fucking wonderful. Everything- the direction, performances, plotting etc is spot on. Raises a lot of interesting questions about the artists responsibilities/freedom, the individual vs. state, surveillance of citizenry by government, the power of art etc. Was genuinely moved by it, on several occasions very moved.

I'd recommend any of the above.[/b]

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Has some of that schmaltzy shite found in so many other US comedies, but when it's funny, it's hilarious - particularly liked the Angel Dust rampage, Jack Black as Paul McCartney and the constant artistic tantrums involving pulling sinks off walls. Too many little pisstakes of various music stars over the years, mostly done pretty well. Think it's by the makers of Talladega Nights, so if that wasn't your cup of tea don't bother but I quite like 'em, usually a bit smarter than the average US dumb jokes fest.

I watched Control. A movie charting the rise and fall of Ian Curtis from one of the greatest bands of all time Joy Division.
An utterly depressing film but incredibly well shot. Would have been an absolutely unbearable viewing if it wasn't for the mancunian manager Rob, man added some well needed humour to the film.
This was the point by the way, it was supposed to be depressing and it was conveyed brilliantly.

I watched a french film called 'La Haine'. Very good film following 3 mates in the parisian ghettos.

La Haine is absolutely wicked, haven't seen it for years but a very good film, I want to see Control as well my bro reckoned it was amazing. Last film I watched was Superbad, which was funny,but only in patches.

I watched Juno which was great (although do 16 y/o kids really speak like that?) and Good Luck Chuck that was shit, not even Jessica Alba could save it from being shit, it was that shit. So really really shit.
