Dubstep surrounds my area, yet we still get dj Baby Ann & Icey as headliners. WTF? Stateside in South Florida...Abducted/StupidyFly in N Florida...404 in Atlanta...but Gainesville is stuck in the fucking Simon's era. The hottest we get is AK1200 like once a year("I'm not paying to see your fat ass again, give me my 5 dollars back!" hahahaha)...i would fucking kill for a dubstep night here. There was a breakcore show that lost a lot of money cus no one knew wtf it was, even DnB heads. I tell them it will sound like Noisia & they tell me they cant stand that random shit that sounds like a 9th grader could make it. WTF!? You are a fucking DnB dj & you wont come to the first Breakcore show EVER in your hometown!? No? Cus you have your heads to far up the House/Breaks peoples asses cus they are the ones that own the clubs & the radio stations(leftover from the 90s still!)...so instead of fucking running your own scene you listen to fist pumping Tiesto/Keoki SHITE 10 years after it should have died. Open your fucking minds. Listen to some fucking original music & turn off the fucking florida breaks already you fucks.

whew...OK, sorry...had to get that off my chest. Like i said, Big Up the few Florida dubstep crews...please come drop science on Gainesville...we are in desperate need of something new...I cant even find 5 local dubstep djs. to do a 3-5 dubstep dj night i would have to bring in people from out of town, which would be great but then they would just play to an empty room.

I think Flying Lotus & Kode 9 should just come fucking educate. please? :(

ak1200, baby anne and dj icey? sheeeeit. Henceforth, florida shall be referred to as "the moonshine state"

you think you are joking man...Moonshine label is still huge here as far as the general populace of EDM heads...I feel SOOO lucky when we get Bukem once a year...but he didnt come thru this year...Meat Beat skipped us...Prefuse skipped us...Subtle skipped us...VS/Otto skipped us...all Dub & Funky HipHop always skips us.

But thats just Gainesville! Dont write off Florida cus Abducted Dub & Stupid Fly are doing big things right now...maybe they will come thru Gainesville one day...<ahem>...I know you guys read this...

hmmm. i went to art school at UF, and although i was much more into the hip hop + folk/punk rock + hardcore scenes while there, gville seemed like a place that would really foster all different kinds of music. there definitely are a shortage of venues .. but not a shortage of art shows! have you tried offering your services as a show dj? i think dubstep + other kinds of new bass music would go over really well in an environment where people are unconsciously open to experiencing something new.

look into it!

stop bitching and make it happen yourself. yeah it might take some work, but get the music out there. sneak it into sets of other music. throw it on at house parties. if no one else is willing to do it, take it into your own hands.

I'm not bitching man. Im just sayin...My little 3 man crew is the only people to have ever thrown a breakcore party here...the only crew to ever throw an all dubstep party here...we play every art gallery there is, coffee shops, restaurants...Ive dj'd at pretty much every venue even the mainstream ones and little bars. But I tell them what I play(say Dubstep for example) and they say whats that? I say electronic music and they say great! Then I play something(ANYTHING) other than what they expected to hear(Icey, Keoki, yes, RITM) and I am never spoken to again by the club or promoters...most common comment is: "I love the way you mix, but what was that horrible noise you were playing?" (Said about an Aphex Twin track)...

I mean trust...I still do my thing...February will the second annual GuerillaFest, thrown by my crew...a 3 day event taking place on street corners, public parks & art galleries, even a show at a new schoolhouse!

Honestly, the most open minded scene here is the "Noise" scene...which is actually pretty fucking big. Some recent articles said our Noise scene is the next step for Gainesville, after EDM then Indie...now Noise. So I play some Dubstep at a Noise night & everyone goes WTF!? That was DOPE! Hahahah...Its great freaking out kids that listen to static & rewinding tapes.

This is of course rubbing off on myself & making for some really noisy EDM at times. Noise kids LOVE Boxcutter. Also, some UF Professors are really into Burial & Kode9, which is cool. I'm hoping they will influence some students or faculty or something...

I say just take a ton of florida/miami electro tracks and give 'em the dubstep treatment, remix that shit and play it out. Fuck 'em if they want to live in the late 90s and can't take a joke.

A 2 step version of "not a test" might be so bad it's good.
