If you're a promoter and it bothers you don't book djs that are known for it
if you're a label/producer and it bothers you don't give you tunes to anyone.
^the voice of reason.

i just wonder how many producers who bitch and moan have actually paid for the software they use. i haven't met one single producer who doesn't have at least one piece of software that wasn't installed with a keygen or crack.
valid point

anyone that's ever used an amen really as well

to be honest filesharing has always been around, and i doubt its ever going to properly stop..
so this debate, as people have said, is just gonna keep on comming up again....and again

i think its a good idea that clubs check that people arent playing illegal stuff...
although i should start keeping my recipts instead of just deleting them :?

Yeh, people will share and copy music they didnt pay for. As a dj maybe i've got a different point-of-view than someone who is just a fan and a listener. Djs play the tunes for people and get paid, so the rules for the fan/ listener are different.

The subject has been repeatedly brought up because new people are repeatedly coming into the scene and they need to know what the standard is. Tho this is something most of us already know about it is still a revelent issue. over 3,000 views in 2 days no less. thanks eveyone for the suggestions and ideas. @ the peanut gallery :

this may well be the most ridiculous quote i have ever seen

and this thread has seemed to turn into a vinyl vs mp3 battle. thats not the issue. the issue is someone downloading dubs illegally and playing them out without the producers permission - i think this is bang out of order.

with the p2p thing - dubstep is still an independent scene, where the smallest of actions can effect many things and people should respect the artist by purchasing their music (when it comes out) in either mp3 or vinyl format.

what he's saying is they aren't even offering it legally to people that don't use vinyl..

do you never download music or is it a secret?

I tend to buy loads of records & grab some mp3s or flacs off bleep or beatport...

but sometimes i cannot find the record anywhere or a legal mp3...

and then it's on p2p networks....do you really expect people to not click 'download'

don't get me wrong I'm against people that just download everything but I think the majority still buy a load each month like myself...

there wouldnt actually be room in my pokey flat for everything on my comp physically

altho if you check the OP, this thread was really about a vinyl head complaining about serato. there wasnt any proof of any illegal anything besides the OPs word that the DJs in question cant afford to buy drinks, so how could they afford buying MP3's...

OF COURSE DLing & playing out dubs you dont have permission for is out of line... unquestionably...

but the reality is, you cant actually KNOW if somebody DLed their released biz legally or illegally... there is absolutely no difference whatsoever between a legal download from a pay site, and that same file illegally downloaded..

this thread turned into what it is because the OP appeared to be on a serato user witch hunt... which is just as silly as pirates who refuse to pay for anything...

i think the bulgarian thing was important... because while im 100% an advocate of paying for the music you dig, and especially the music you play out, it should also be acknowledged that in such a little scene, a little thing like downloading a song illegally and playing it out in eastern europe could potentially create a whole NEXT scene, and certainly open up new markets...

there IS a balance :)

and please labels, make your stuff available for me to download.. ill throw you some $$... but i simply cant afford to keep up on all the vinyl id like to, while at the same time actively spending plenty of $$ locally keepin shit poppin... theres alot of releases id cop a file, but im not shellin out 13$ for one side of a vinyl...

Fair enough that you think i'm wrong, i just can't imagine DMZ or anybody else complaining about people downloading their released music when its only for sale on vinyl. If they wanna keep their releases vinyl only, which is a perfectly respectable thing to do, they have to accept people are going to want mp3's in which case they have no other choice but to use P2P, torrents etc....if they cared they'd offer an alternative imo. Whats your opinion D Code?

Nobody here has disagreed with your second point, why is everyone still bringing that up? everybody knows that wrong.

Only way is to brainwash them thru the music and make them buy some from the artists but in the same time there is really a lot of nice music let free on the internet by the artists for who like to listen or play it. So what is Legal then :P The only people i see getting money from free music is the net providers  that is not "free" better buy some mp3's from the artists, then pay for the company that provides u the net
no one read this right, it all end up to every user getting and playing your's or their own music. about LEGAL

the only thing i can say is that no matter how hard you try and prevent this, its going to happen. that said, continue doing what you do with the same integrity and passion that you do, and let what the half-assed illegal-downloading djs have coming to them. karma my friend, karma.

as someone who is not a dj and has no intention of buying records , i have to encourage digital releases as well as cd format albums

if the music really makes me bob my head i have no problem paying a reasonable price for it

i agree with this and thats why these 'big labels' should have the option of mp3 purchases; even if it goes against the ethics of the scene, at the end of the day it is in their interest. why they haven't done so is anyones guess.
