I agree with it not being the future of dubstep, it's just another vibe.

I don't see why it can't be track of the year though, it's a big tune.
How could there be a 'track of the year'? 2009 is bigger than Hyph Mngo (as dope as it is)

Agreed, I couldn't possibly narrow down one favorite, 2009 has seen the most diverse music so far.

I agree, as I would have to pick a top 10 and that wouldn't be doing the music justice but I don't see how it's impossible for someone to have a favourite track that came out in one particular year.

if there is a track of the year this would come second because Anaconda would come first.

to find the tune boring and unfresh does not at all mean that you are into IDM, or a chin-stroking faux intellectual.

And i wouldn't have bothered to post anything against the tune if it hadn't been for the fear that the funky-hype will push aside and finally eliminate the dubstep sound I love so much (see Pitchfork July thread)
Quite physical that love btw.
relax buddy! I was actualy talking to reynolds and the others slating this tune for pure technical reasons,,,, sorry if it felt like I was slating everyone who didn't enjoy hyph mngo, def not my intentions
as for your fear: dubstep always goes in dif directions, but there will always be people who stick with a style and perfect it... I don't think the halftime stuff is going to disapear. Imho, the more funky stuff nods to a time (2000-2003) when dubstep was about more polyrythmic production, but in a fresh way. Dubsteps greatest strength is in the diversity of it's sound. It's only when we get tunnel vision and decide we only like our dubstep this way or that way that the sound stagnates and dies in a sea of similarity. Big up the producers making tunes that make people say "this isn't realy dubstep" ! To me, this is the essence of the sound, always pushing forward.

Maybe we will finally stop being uptight and insistent on referring to genre? Maybe then we can appreciate the whole spectrum of the dubstep scene and realise there's room for everybody.

I like the tune. I was too critical at first. It's not the second coming of Christ, but it is a good club anthem.

I saw a 5 track digi EP last night for $10.50 USD. Ridiculous, considering you can get a full-length by Vibert or Clark for $9.99 on Bleep. They were shitty tunes, too. :|

Hyph Mngo is one of the most overhyped tune of the year. The whole track nothings happening, quite boring imo. Really dont get it why this 1 is big. B-side sounds better, but still not enough 4 me to buy it.

@ $1.99 / track that makes sense.

also most tracks that are exclusive to beatport are $4.99/release (2.49/song). most labels do set their own prices, but this seems to be the standard price point by and large. at most it will go down $1 per mp3 once the "exclusive" is no longer valid...but what you're moaning about $2. which goes to a label that is imo putting out some of the best music regardless of genre.

buy the mp3 & the vinyl imo. id paypal the money straight to hotflush/joy orbison myself if i could do it ; )
